I am looking for plans (even a basic sketch) or better, a Toyota or possibly an already designed and built “professional” appearing transmission cross member to mount a H55 transmission in a 1978 FJ40.

I found a top case and this is one of the final pieces!

Thanks in advance!

This is what Toyota used.

Plus the skid plates. Pre 8/80 four speed on the left. Four speed 8/80+ four speed in the middle. Finally 10/82+ five speed on the right.

The center crossmember changed 10/82. It disked deeper under the front driveshaft to allow for the longer five speed driveshaft. This section is the same on all 40 series. The side L brackets on the were the same on all short and mid wheel base 40 series. The FJ45 and HJ47 each had their own L brackets.

Few years back this were easier to find. As alternative some have modified L brackets and crossmember out of an early FJ60.

@lcwizard was making a crossmember. @Downey makes a heavy duty universal heavy duty skid plate.

If you are fine going aftermarket 4Plus makes one, and you get an upgraded skid plate out of the deal as well. It isn't listed on the website, but I just sent an email and was able to get one ordered. Heavy duty is an understatement to say the least on this thing.

I got a weld and bolt on crossmember from Overland Cruiser for my H55F.

With this setup you need the late 60 series isolator between the transmission and crossmember. Nothing wrong just don't want to buy the 40 series or early 60 series which cradles the isolator. Late 60 series the crossmember is flat and the 40 series style isolator will not work.

I ordered all my motor mounts based on the part numbers provided by Overland Cruisers. When I was looking for a crossmember and saw 3 different part numbers for the transmission and had no idea which one to get. This isolator worked and the transmission and motor are in.

The crossmember and motor mounts were apart of the package for my R2.8 conversion. All the isolators are Toyota parts.

Never actually looked at Dave's AKA LCWizard website before. Finally did and couldn't find the crossmember. Or any skid plate that matter. Has links to other vendors with products. Dave has talked about retiring. Would contact him directly to see what he has and is willing to make. His products are second to none. Unfortunately his link for his retro brush guard comes up error. If that brush would work with a PTO I would have bought one from him when he was still in Phoenix.
