Yeah, lots of people moving to digital keypad or "smart" locks these days. Added benefit is if there's an emergency the code can be given to the call taker so FD doesn't need to break anything to get inside.

stupid key question of the day: is it possible to program a Credit Card key for 2 different rigs?
I have a 2015 LX, and just got my wife a 2018 LX. I wouldn't want to try this with a regular remote with buttons, but if I can program the same credit card key to both rigs, the proximity sensors would work to whichever I was standing next to.

I am going through the ringer on the backup key. I have a 2020 LC, I ordered the CC key. However the back up key, it seems like folks who order 69515-30380 are receiving one without the triangle cutout - and it's not working. The pics online of 69515-30380 show no triangle. Can anyone confirm/deny if the key requires the triangle cutout?

See example - no triangle cutout.

The garage door opener on the mirror. I guess it's not the most secure and I have considered upgrading my dead bolt to a smart lock on the front door. I guess it's on the "honey-do" list.

I would at the very least hide/bury/something a backup key for the house. Our last power outage, more than a couple of my neighbors were unable to get inside their homes due to no physical key.

Update - I ordered the key above. No triangle cutout. It worked fine on my 2020 LC door.

My new to me ‘15 LX came with an all 3 keys including card key with the HYQ14ABB fcc code on the back (which seems year appropriate from my research) but it doesn’t work. It did have a similar but smaller CR2016 battery inserted (still 3V) but I replaced with a new, proper CR2412 and still no joy.

Is there any troubleshooting I can do with/without techstream (I don’t have a way to use it at the time but am looking into it)? Not sure what the failure rate of these cards over time is, but I guess I have to assume it’s not a dead card (for now).

Before you expend a bunch of effort trying to program it - try one or two other CR2412 batteries in the card. In my experience the credit card keys are extremely sensitive to the strength of the battery and I've had plenty of "fresh", "new" CR2412s not work for no obvious reason.

That’s wild - I tried 2x “fresh”, “new” Panasonic batteries from Amazon - should I return them and try a different set? The terminals are nice and clean as well.

I obviously can't tell you for sure whether the batteries are the problem or if you key card hasn't been programmed or just went bad or what - but I have had plenty of batteries that were sealed and "fresh" and "new" that card didn't like for some reason. Just mentioning it is worth a try. For me, programming keys on tech stream involves dragging an ancient Windows laptop out of the attic and trying to get it working again and I always loathe that process. Best avoided if possible!

you need to confirm that the card key is for your model year LX, i think you can find that information here

If the battery is low, you can rest the card key close to the ignition button and start the vehicle with it. If it doesn't work, to me that means it's a bad key card (or dead battery) or not paired with your vehicle.

In the past, I have moved key cards from one lexus vehicle to another by sending it out to get reset from this ebay seller here. Then using techstream to program it to the vehicle.

I could order a couple more to try - just to rule it out. Yeah, I was looking into the "LAUNCH" handheld device that looks to solve the laptop techstream problem mentioned in another thread. Might be of interest to you!

I dug through multiple threads that seemingly confirmed "HYQ14ABB" would work for my model year.

Brand new batteries, tried 2x new batteries and holding the card key close to the ignition button and both did nothing. The previous owner said it worked when he first tried using it in 2018 when he purchased, but admittedly it has sat in his drawer since then, so who knows? I'm thinking about giving the tool mentioned in my response above you to see if that could at least lead me to the right path.
