Hey so I'm in the process of replacing my upper radiator hose and my receiver is very cracked and jagged looking. Should I replace the hose or should I get it towed to a shop to replace the radiator? First time doing this myself so idk if this is normal or not

that doesn't look good
replace entire radiator
might as well do all the other hoses at the same time along with the heater "T"s

When I replaced my radiator earlier in the year it was due to a crack in the upper plastic section. I noticed the hose connector was very brittle like yours is - I was curious how brittle and tested it, was able to break off chunks with my fingers. Similar situation on the brittle plastic of the heater tees (one of those completely fell apart when I was removing it).

If you’re looking for an all aluminum radiator, I believe Mishimoto is back in stock after several months wait. I have one, happy with it even though mine had a fault (very small pinhole leak on one of the welds) and they sent me a replacement radiator under warranty, which got held up in the back order.

I'll have to check it out. I went ahead and just replaced the hose for now and it's not overheating yet thankfully

It was just brittle around the end of the tube connector, just like in your pic. Felt pretty solid where it connects to the tank so you may be ok until your replacement radiator comes - but you never know, could fail any time without warning.
Luckily when our radiator failed we were a hundred yards past my in-laws driveway, not on the highway needing a tow because that’s where my wife was headed.

Mind hooking me up with a link for the Mishimoto radiator? I was looking at them and they seem pretty solid

I found it through Amazon just searching for a 100 series radiator. For some reason I couldn’t find it directly on their website, but they may have corrected it since then

Damn that's expensive af but I might get it if it has a lifetime warranty

How many miles on your rig? Depending on how many miles get ready for everything to be expensive AF.

256062 miles. Trust me I've already done like 5 grand of work but I only paid 600$ for the car itself

You forgot a zero.
Just kidding. Man for $600 you can do pretty much whatever you want and still come out ahead lol

The upper plastic gooseneck crumbling, is sure sign, your upper plastic radiator top is at end of life. Also, at 250K the fins are likely very clogged with dust, cotton, bugs, weeds, grasses, etc. It's time to replace the radiator.

A Denso rad on amzn is only $200ish and is a perfectly fine alternative to Toyota OEM or an aluminum rad. $200 vs ruining the engine makes it a pretty easy decision if you ask me.
