I have been researching off-road recovery tips and techniques and have come across this product. I have witness multiple recovery strap breakages and they always scare the crap out of me.

That seems like an engineer got a hold of a basic recovery technique and way over built it... I do vehicle recovery quite often and whenever I don't use my winch, I use a 30,000lb snatch strap with a receiver shackle like this:

I carry two of these, one stays on my hitch and the other is to put on the stuck vehicle assuming they have a hitch. Most of the time the other vehicle does have a hitch since I do a majority of my recoveries on dirt forest roads and it's usually trucks and Jeeps that I'm pulling out. I just fail to see how this "new" technique is any different other than incorporating a massively overbuilt receiver shackle. Shackle mounted on a receiver? Check. Huge snatch strap? Check. Safety blanket to prevent the strap from whipping back after it breaks? Check. I have a checklist in my head that I run through (I know because of this there is a small chance for human error but I've been lucky enough to avoid it thus far). So what's the difference??

I get what your saying I have those too. But they have a strap that goes over the existing strap to catch the breakage. They also placed a 10lb sand bag in the middle and the tow strap shot it at the window. It pretty neat strap technology they got going on.

I like the idea of a strap catcher aka snap-trap

The snap trap is a really good idea. The thing with this is the need for 2 receivers, not a guarantee on
the front of most trucks. Too bad they have their strap sewn right to the insert. Certainly a good idea for
the oil patch in N Alberta where it was invented.

good point on that... never thought about needing two hitch receivers

I have pulled out cars that don't have them as well, I just choose the receiver option if the other car is compatible since it's the safest route. If they don't have one then I usually wrap a shorter snatch strap like a tree saver around the frame and then shackle the ends together and hook my winch to it. This prevents my winch line from scratching or cutting the front or rear bumper. No doubt that this system is very safe and almost fool-proof if you do every step correctly, but IMHO it is overkill. I like the Snatch Trap but a couple heavy blankets or a winch line damper would do the same thing. The blown up shackle on the receiver looks like you could pull a semi out of the ditch with it. The ones I use are good for 4ton so why would I need anything bigger? I see what they did and I like their ideas, but with the system as a whole it just seems like they reinvented the wheel.

Not entirely convinced of this kinetic recovery concept. I think it creates a huge shock load to the vehicle which I think should be avoided. Slow and steady with a winch is the best. We have a Bubba rope in our club, and if the vehicle is stuck good it is of no use.

Every recovery is different, require different approach and rarely do you have the ideal conditions shown in the video. The ditch hitch is defiantly not a do all when it comes to recovery. Dont see the need to carry all that size when D-rings has served the recovery arena well for many years.
If you are off road, stuck, and dont have correct recovery points Im not helping you anyway.
