I’m new to land cruiser modifications although I’m very much interested in LC and projects posted in this forum, It’s really interesting. Do apologize if this is not the correct forum as this is my first post .
Finally.., after long years I’ve could afford to get my own LC J and I bought HZJ77 with 1HZ engine. Now want to do some modifications to it.
I need some help from you guys to get to know stuff and to select most suitable items, I’m in SL and it is very difficult find good place to buy items (most are very pricy due to taxes etc) and very few people who know what need to be done and how.. L
Currently no modifications done to my LC, and I wanted to fix a bull bar & a winch (as this would help me lot in Safaris) . I was able to get T-Max 8500 series winch (hope this enough for this truck) and getting an ARB bull bar.
One mechanic suggested me to go for a lift and put 33’ tires (go for 2 shackle sizes (front 2’ lift & rear 1.5’ lift) as I’m going to have bull bar & winch) What you guys think about this…. Will there be any problems in this.
I need a lift as well and planning to have 33’ tires, what would be the most suitable lift (as I have read too much lifts will affect the stability of the vehicle)
My other list of items
- Rancho steering stabilizer (Rancho RS5407 RS5000)
- Rancho shocks (Rancho RSX17000)
Do suggest other items these were select based on limited knowledge I have,
Can the experts suggest what are the other modifications that I can do for this type of truck, (if you guys know the exact part no , please let me know) it would help me to get it from Amazone or some other place.
Love this forum it really helps to learn stuff and really great project vehicles J I love it…

Hi and welcome and congratulations on your choice of vehicle.

Im not a big fan of shackle lifts and the good news is that with a 2 inch suspension lift you will not need them for 33 in tyres.
Ive found from changing the suspension on my 73 series and 75 series that Dobinsons springs are good quality and so are their shocks.
They are one of the few companies that make a kit for a 77,the other is a Japanese company called Zeal
Ranchos are ok but I think you can do better for the same money.

I think the 8500 Tmax will do fine and you can always keep a sheave block to double the pulling power if needed

This is a pic of my 73 with a 2 1/2 in lift with 33 in BFG,they have never rubbed.
Some say my front shackles are too vertical ,but I never had a problem except needing a castor adjustment

you do not even need a lift for 33 skinnies on a 70 but chances are your truck springs are worn and sagging.
do it right and get a kit but that being said i have run extended shackles for years. you will need to use caster correction shims up front or the old girl is going to handle like "herding cattle" when on uneven blacktop.
welcome to Mud
