I love driving this truck so much, it has pretty much become my daily driver. I keep all my work crap in this truck and leave my 100 for weekend and over the road trips.

A while back, my alternator went out so instead of just replacing the alternator, I basically replaced everything I was going to touch. I got on the phone and ordered an OEM alternator, all new idler pulleys, new belts, plugs, wires, rotor and cap. I also ordered valve cover gasket and seals, side cover gasket, oil pan gasket, dizzy o-ring, speedo o-ring.

While in there, I decided it was a good time to desmog. I ordered a kit from FJ62INTX ( thx Ryan!). I also ordered all new battery cables from Urban Land Cruisers.

Anyway, got it all installed and got the truck running again. It is running great and I just enjoy driving it. It's got 217k on it now and I will drive the little 3fe till it dies. It is slow as Christmas and terrible fuel mileage but I still love it. I am installing a Kenwood Ddx471hd next week.

Pulling this (with the 100 because it is 1400 miles) to Wyoming in the first week of June. But I will probably do some Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas trips with the 80.

Great looking rig. I'm kinda partial to it :)

Man, I sure do like your wheel/tire combo! Gives me ideas. :hmm: Sweet trailer, too. How does the 3fe do pulling it?

Thanks! I have been following yours. Have you figured out the tick sound yet? Mine is pretty noisy but I have everything adjusted out like it is supposed to be. I just figure it is noisy because it is early 50's technology held over till 92.

The 3fe pulls it ok around here in the mostly flat lands. I really don't even notice it back there but I would kind of hate to pull any Colorado mountain passes with it.

Haven't tracked it down yet. I bought a stethoscope and still can't pin-point the origin. I'm pretty sure its coming from the exhaust side and may just have a sticking valve or something. I did a valve adjustment last week and it definitely helped the situation, but didn't eliminate it. I'm considering taking it to an independent mechanic that I know of. I called and interviewed him about his knowledge on the 3FE and he rattled off all of the specs without hesitation, so he seems to know his stuff and comes recommended. I'll report back what I find.

Good luck with your rig, its looking nice. I love the White 80's and yours looks to be in great condition.

I know this is an old thread that I stumbled on, but I have a 1991 white FJ80 and I love the FJ40 steel wheel look on yours. I'm definitely going to get a set with some 33's. Awesome!

I have actually gone to 17" wheels now with 34" Nittos. I will try to post a picture later.

edit... I guess I am technically challenged. I can't figure out how to post a pic.

I will give credit where credit is due. I got the idea from Summit Cruisers Jr. I was looking for something bigger than 15" so I could put Load Range E tires on my 80. We hunt in central TX and everything there has thorns so I needed the puncture resistance. When I saw that he had put those wheels on his FJ80, I thought they looked awesome. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The tires are Nitto Terra Grappler G2's in 285/75-17E

Nice, what size wheel spacers did you go with?

Not very much. I think I bought a pair of 1/4" just for the front. None in the back.

Since my last update, I have installed a set of Ironman Springs and Nitrogas shocks.

I couldn't afford for my FJ40 to be without its factory steelies, so I decided to paint my factory aluminum rims with Duplicolor Graphite and installed a brand new set of BFG KM2's.

Here is how it looks now...

I know this is old but do you have 31s or 33s on there?

285-75/17. That tallies up to be a 33.8” tire so I guess technically it would be called a 34. Fits great! No rubbing.
