Down to buying time only between these two. Cooper st maxx or STT pro. I wheel mostly in the south east and WY and UT. I don't care about road noise buy do care some about grabbing road imperfections and safe handling at 65 mph. I do wheel a good bit whenever I can. So I also value off road capability. I am leaning yorwards the STT pro. Any input?

Just a heads up on the ST Maxx is that they may feel squishy until they wear in, either that or I got used to it :) I don't remember this with the STT's off course it's been a long time since the STT where new.
If you do a bit of wheeling then the STT's would probably be the more usefull ones. If concerned about on road stability/traction on wet or snowy roads maybe get the STT's sipped.

My vote for St Maxx. Mine have been great for the last 2yrs and stil have great road manners. Never any issues in the snow, what little we had last year.

Thanks guys. The ST Maxx is pretty well proven. lots of success with them. But i am really tempted by the STT Pro. It might be more aggressive than i need. But i just dont hear much bad about them.

I drove a 40 1,500 miles straight only stopping for food and gas on the Cooper STT Pro tires. I've owned a lot of all terrain and mud tires and these tires made me wish they had come out sooner. They made the drive enjoyable rather than harsh like other mud tires (mtrs, km2s, etc)

Also, if you have Amazon prime they are pretty cheap and free shipping too.

Great to hear. I ordered the STT Pro from my guy a day ago

We need to ride together and compare my S/T Maxx(es) with your STT Pro(s).

So i ended up with the STT Pro. Overall very happy with them. They drive great on the hiway which was one of my worries. They are louder than i thought. Have more hum than my clapped out KOs. That surprised my. But that being said it is not loud enough to bother me at all even at 75mph. Just that it is noticeable with the radio turned off. Honestly they are not bad at all. I am more than happy with the noise. Nothing that requires talking louder or even turning up the radio.

One strange thing is the hum has a vibration quality to it like something is not round or balanced well. But no vibration at all. I even had her up to about 80-85. Felt a little light but super smooth. They did an alignment but forgot to give me the print out. I would like to see what my specs are. Caster SHOULD be good, maybe they added a little more toe out than i like. That is a easy fix. My brake rotors only have about 40,000 on them, OEM. But i have felt a little vibration in them coming down off big mountain passes. So i will replace them soon. Maybe i am picking up a little vibe from something there. In the past i had a slight vib while driving, no brakes. Some how it went away when i installed these rotors. Strange things some times cause slight intermittent vibrations.

Have not had them off road except in the back yard dragging landscape rocks. But the voids are big and i predict they will do well. If i end up getting OK mileage out of them i will be sold.

I have strange requirements for tires. Day to day very short driving around town 7 mile commute. I dont care about nose and stuff then. But then i drive cross country twice a year. Still dont care about noise. But i need it to be vibration free and safe feeling at 65-75 MPH. Long days and driver fatigue can be dangerous if things handle funny.

We have the STT Pro's on the company 4Runner. Overall it's a good MT tire, it really grips good on all terrains and on pavement not the best but acceptable.

I had a three-day camping/riding trip two weekends ago, and a day riding trip last Saturday, and so far I'm really impressed with the S/T Maxx tires. Both times, the trip each way was about two hours at speeds of 45 to 70 mph, and the tires' highway manners are just like street tires. I found out, when I went to air down during the second day of the camp/ride that the shop that installed them set the tire pressure at 40 psi. I aired down to almost 20 psi and drove them that way from mid-day Sunday to Monday afternoon, on the trail and the pavement. I aired up to 45 psi for the ride home and kept that pressure the whole time this past Saturday

As far as how they are off-road, here's a video of a hill climb I did on the first day of the camp/ride, with the tire pressure still at 40 psi. Granted, we haven't had a lot of rain, so the soil was pretty dry and compacted. I'm still waiting to see how well they will handle muddy conditions.
