I noticed this morning on my 2009 LX570 my coolant level was a little bit below midpoint of F and L on the reservoir. And saw this pink residue where hose connects to the radiator cap. No other suspicious residue on the reservoir, water pump, and radiator.

Is this a simple hose replacement? Or something more suspicious going on? Thanks.

If I'm thinking about the right spot...

That hose is part of the pressure relief system that vents coolant to the overflow tank. It doesn't see much pressure and generally would not be the cause of coolant loss.

I don't remember, but I would still think there's a lightweight clamp on that fitting? Is there any residue below that tube?

A common culprit to coolant loss can be that cap itself. It does wear, causing it to vent to that hose, at lower than designed pressures. Pretty cheap to replace.

Have you checked the common cracking spot on the radiator?

As yours is a 2009, the water pump is likely due. Has that been replaced? They tend to weep at higher mileages.

Thanks for responding.

Radiator is still ok. No leaks at the common cracking spot or anywhere around the rad.

Water pump was replaced with OEM pump maybe 5-10k miles ago at a Lexus dealership. I'll double check again, but my hunch it's still good.

Can you, or someone confirm, is my hose missing a clamp?

Should I order a new hose, clamp, and radiator cap?

Looking at pictures in this thread, there is no OEM clamp in that position.

The residue you showed doesn't look significant enough to suggest a coolant leak there.

Are you sure you're losing coolant? Mid-point between L and F is okay and normal.

Perhaps just monitor?

Pull the hose off the barb fitting, cut about 1” off the end and replace. If it still weeps put a zip tie around it.

Bump for Monday crowd. Has anyone seen coolant residue at this fitting point before?

Not that didn't come from the cap. As suggested above, cut off and inch and clamp or zip tie. How many miles between checking the level? Both times in the AM with completely cold engine?

Also make sure the vent line off the cap of the reservoir can flow freely. If that’s backed up somehow the system will find the weakest link somewhere and leak, because after the cap it’s not designed for any pressure.

I had the exact same thing happening on my wife’s 2009 LX. I noticed it when replacing the cracked radiator. It was only seeping and would not be the cause of any significant coolant loss.
I replaced the hose and the problem was solved.
