Has anyone tried this, either by replacing the wheel or adding mounts? Not seeing anything on search, here and google...

I know I've seen a guy here that said he got a Sequoia steering wheel with stereo controls that our '95 airbag worked with, but I can't seem to find it in my threads. I'm in the process of upgrading the tech in my '95 and after installing a new pioneer head unit 6-7 years ago, I definitely want steering wheel mounted controls. I've looked into these but haven't pulled the trigger as she's been at the painters since Jan - but I've got her back so I'm back at it

Looking forward to hear what others have done.

Definitely not interested in taped-on buttons.
Def not my first choice, but might be okay until I can find the post about the Sequoia steering wheel.

for reference - available on ebay sometimes.

But this works on my pioneer headunit - only volume up/down, forward/rewind and advance play and rewind.
I have it mounted wiht HD velcro on steering column and works well. Just under the cruise C levers.
Stuck-on but hidden and works close enough to steering wheel controls.

But do they fit 80s? Writing them now, thanks for the tip!

Are the stock wheels mounted on a clock spring?
I believe so. Would prefer that to wireless but might be a total PITA, I dunno...

The discontinued factory clock spring is p/n 84306-28020; Amayama says 84306-24010 "should" fit. Further, they say this p/n is for Lexus GS300, SC300, and SC400. My Ford steering wheel swap was like a $100 project, with a clock spring, harness, and wheel. I'm going to start looking into this as an option.

Edit:
  • Lexus GS300 93-97
  • Lexus SC300 91-00
  • Lexus SC400 91-00

Sure do. Wireless modules make for a pretty clean install. Can even get tap shift modules, pretty cool stuff.

Okaaay. Next issue: if the wheel was not designed for the 80, the airbag is going to have the wrong shape for the 80 cab, and so possibly not function as designed, unless the interior dimensions are VERY similar, or the 80 bag can be placed inside the new wheel...

Not exactly my forte; two hours ago, I didn't know what a clock spring was. Do these wheels operate via Bluetooth? All I see is "wireless." It's also not clear whether they can be made to work with whatever you want them to work with--your choice of audio, say, or if you want the audio controls to work something else entirely. What's the deal there? Finally, is there wireless device communication going on all the time, or only when you press a button? Is there a master to shut the wireless off?

Also--they tell you the diameter of their drink coaster--but not their wheels??? Not seeing install instructions either...

I toyed with this sort of idea for ages for another vehicle. Never really figured it out.

Interested to see where this thread goes

Those PVS Automotive wheels all look terribly out of place in an 80 IMO.

Can't see myself dropping $1k on a wheel with buttons.
Although, if i got fired up, I could spend that on bits and pieces to cobble something together and make a project work! Wouldn't be the first time
