Considering Cruise Moab 2018

Hello all,
Yes, we did get into the Cruise Moab Kokopelli. We started it last year, but had a failure of a important fabricated part that rendered 4WD unusable on the way up to Top of the World. So we have unfinished business with that trail! As I mentioned above, Susan and I enjoy meeting and helping folks from out of town. If any of you are arriving all beat up, blasted, and tired, we can get you a shower and a beer. Or if you just want to find out something about Moab or which auto parts store is best or whatever, just let me know. I am happy to give my phone number if you drop an email.

Michael, good to hear you are headed back, Sienna and I wish we could make it out but decided to do rubithon this year as it is a little closer to home.

Hi Noah,
I am sorry we will miss you. Riding with you last year was fun, and I was very interested in the electronics you had installed. I bet Sienna is growing like a weed! Soon she will be driving the rig while you spot if she isn't already. Say Hi from me and Susan. The truck's little problem was due to a poorly thought out welded bracket. The fabricator was really abashed- he knew what had happened as soon as I started to describe it. I doubt that it will be a problem in the future! You could pick the entire truck up with the new one for sure.

Susan and I did 8500 miles last summer, driving as far as you can go north in Western Canada, hundreds of miles past the Arctic Circle. We did the Dempster Highway, which starts near Dawson and ends in Inuvik, at the Mackenzie River Delta. They had just finished an extension of the road to Tuk, right on the Arctic Ocean, but it had not been opened when we were there. Drat!!! Several thousand miles of dirt roads, including driving through a forest fire with flames on both sides of the truck. Sadly, the dirt roads were very well maintained, and easy to drive on. We never had to even go to 4WD.
I was still glad we took the truck, and all the spares, tools, and recovery gear. We got a LONG way from civilization, and no Toyota stores to be seen. The roads, although very good, were made of chips of rock, and having heavy offroad tires really made a difference. We took the K02 s for the trip and they were great. After the Dempster, we headed over to Anchorage, and parts of the Kenaii Peninsula before heading back to Moab. A fun trip!!

Have fun at the Rubithon. If you are ever out this way, look me up. We have room for a few guests, and there are some interesting things for overlanding I would enjoy doing with company.

Yup. Very excited about completing the Kokopelli this year! It will happen! Can’t wait to hook up with old friends and meet new.

I was wondering who the trail leader for the Kokopelli trail is this year. Does anyone know? last year Stan led it, and he started a thread about it, with an invitation for the participants to introduce themselves, and also details about the meetup spot and time (Rabbit Valley last year), as well as important facts and the first night pot luck details (in 2017). It would be great to have such a thread this year, as I get the impression that many of the participants are coming long distances and/or are new to Moab. If Jeff Zepp reads this, can you chip in please?

If anyone wants a set of front fox 2.0 ifp shocks for 0-3 inch lift let me know. One is blown, both should be rebuilt. I didn't want to deal with shipping them to fox. Price is free, and I'll bring them to Moab if anyone wants them.

Well my wife and i will be on the Kokpelli trip this year. Coming in from Atlanta GA. I think the New England guys have us beat on the mileage.

It would be nice to have a thread where we can meet some of the people that are on the trip.

I did Kokopelli last year "on the way to the event". Coming from San Francisco, CA area it seemed like a bit of a detour but was definitely worth it. Running it solo was a lot faster than going with a large group. You should do this little tour.

I was going to look for spots along the trail but camped my first night at Top of the world. Second night I was at slick rock campground. The trail was slightly shorter due to eliminating a bit towards the end due to road construction. I followed a gps track that i found online. Loaded into MotionX-GPS

PS, Make sure to include the cotton wood canyon section, one of the more technical, fun and scenic parts of the trail.

I've got a rusty POS but would prefer something less crusty.
