Well, Gents (and ladies)...it happened. Total brake failure. 150k miles.
Backing out of driveway, pedal goes to the floor, very little brake power while pushing very hard. ABS light is on and Brake light is on. Buzzer is on.
I've read a bunch of the threads on this issue and watched some instructional videos....I'm going to tackle it myself, then have my local shop bleed the brakes properly afterward....that's my plan anyhow.
I had also just purchased a new double din head unit, and all new speakers, back up cam, etc. and need new batteries (dual setup) so she's going to be cracked open from the inside as well, and now will get a full overhaul...why the hell not?
The only question (for now) is: What else should I service/replace while I have her laid up and cracked open? Cabin air filter? Vacuum hoses? Fluids? Bearings?
Thanks for any and all input...and good juju; I might need it.
(pic for attention )

Has anyone had good luck with these guys off Amazon?
Not clear whether this is a reman or simply used. I might call them tmrw...

Only about $300 cheaper than new oem from dealer at the moment...the risk is probably not worth the savings...

TIA

Brand new OEM is pretty cheap right now. Used to more like 1900+. Personally I'd buy a new one and eat the cost difference, but that doesnt mean getting it fixed and saving money is a bad idea. It's just what I would have done if they were 1300 when mine busted.

However, if thats not what you want to do and would rather save the money, I'd send it to Andy Le. Find him in the UZJ100 Facebook group. IIRC its 600-700 to have him fix everything if it all needs replacement.

I spent 2+ years chasing down issues with my f'n ABS unit. It sucked. I'd try to fix it all at once.

Isn't it amazing how low mileage vehicles can have issues like this? It seems I am seeing this more and more with low mileage (and high dollar) LC/LXs having unfortunate and expensive breaks.

Hey! Thanks for the lead on Andy! I may have to track him down. I'm with you though $1300 for new...can't beat it.

Unfortunate, agreed.
However, makes sense, from an aging in place standpoint, I guess. Many seem to be pleasure crusiers and overlanders these days, so although mileage is slow to creep up; the 24hr day, remains unchanged.

All new OEM parts are ordered. Will start the project next week and update here. Entire brake actuator assembly 1998 LC part #: 47050-60010. Plus new gasket, part #: 44785-60010.
