Thanks for the response Coen.

I agree, driving at night is a bad idea and I will do none of it if I can. I am going to put a couple of driving lights on the front of the truck and avoid putting any up high.

I am very glad to hear you have had no problems with parts going missing from your Hi-Lift or in general. That is most encouraging. I will certainly keep you posted about our adventure. I have just now started my own thread on IH8MUD. Its new but averaging a post a day so that is good.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/expedition-builds/522985-2-diesels-4-continents.html

I am sure there will be many questions to follow.

Thanks again for the great thread!

Watch out for flying objects on the road.

Hello,

Watch out for flying objects. Slow down, Airplanes crossing. Give way, airplanes on the right side. That brought some memories.

Now that is a quite common sign in South America. The guys who built airports/airstrips did not share their plans with the guys building roads (or vice versa)?

Thank you so much for this wonderful thread.

Juan

frame

guy's what do you think, that chassis frame... Is that suppose to be like that a double U [one U inside the other]? I mean, mud, water ed have no where to go....

clean the frame don't drill holes but spray oil or grease in the frame and keep clean after river/ mud crossings. check your leaf pak attachments at frame to see how structural they are.
Cheers

Holes were there, I didn't see them at first, because they were clogged.

hummm,
oil - grease + river crossings = contamination

don't tell the greenies...

You can't imagine how much cars, truck, motorcycles busses and comercial trucks I have seen being washed in the rural areas in a river!

So: after a close inspection yesterday, I came to the conclusion that one shock absorber is leaking on the front left, and that the bumper stop on the same side is missing?!

Obtaining shock absorbers would pose no problem here in Suriname, but those bumper stops pose to be difficult.

I looked into my parts catalogue and see that they are the same for the whole line-up of 40 series. But that there is a difference in left and right? I always thought that they would be the same hight. What is the difference and where does what go, I am looking for specs as I will need to fabricate something here.

What are your thoughts?
