Maybe an alarm or other theft prevention system would be cheaper than keys?

The keys to the car have microchips in them. According to the dealership, and my brother, you need either the keys or the car to program the microchip in the key. So even if they got a key, they still wouldnt be able to start the car. That being said, I still think I am going to have a simple alarm installed that will go off if a door is opened.

Sorry to hear that Mike.

How is the Mr. Mom gig going?

The Mr. Mom thing is going ok so far. Not used to not going to work everyday. This is just short term though until I return to school.

So, is this trip still a go for most people?

My new shift starts soon and looks like I will be able to make Sunday and Monday for this trip. I'm going to leave after work on Saturday and get to Moab in the AM Sunday.

I am interested in running some tougher stuff.

I am anxiously counting down the weeks and days until the Moab trip. It looks like Ross will have a school activity on that day even though it is supposed to be an APS holiday. :(

But that isn't going to stop me from going to Moab with the HDC group.

That's the spirit Mike!

I'm still hoping to go. I've never been to Moab but everyone whose been tells me that I need to. Cruise Moab's always on the week prior to final exams so that's still out of the question for at least 2 more years.

I'm enrolled in a 'required' class that's scheduled to meet every Friday afternoon. I'm allowed to miss 1 class in a semester. First I'll pray that a class is not scheduled for that Friday. If one is, then I'm going to do my best to save that Friday as my 1 free Friday for hookie so I can drive up to Moab on that day. If not, well maybe I'll consider still going on Saturday.

I'm still in and have asked for the days off. Shouldn't be a problem to make it.

I am planning to attend - looking forward to it!

A reminder that I have a permit reservation for Thurs - Sunday, 4-7 October, for Devil's Kitchen (Elephant Hill), site #1. The permits holds 10 people and three vehicles. Additional vehicles will require another permit.

I'm still planning on being there. The wife is looking into seeing if that is a doable vacation for her too. We are planning a trip to Disney in November so she is exploring whether or not she can take a 2 one week vacations in about a 1 month period. Either way... plan on seeing me there!!!

Since my Canada trip fell through for the first part of September, I am definitely planning on this! If the wife can get free from work, then we'll probably have the whole group. (me, wife, and four kids) My Mother-In-Law might even want to drive her 91' 4Runner up... She's always in for a trip to Utah with enough notice.

Just need to figure on which days I taking off.

If anyone not going to the meeting Saturday is going to Moab, you might want to make your wishes as far as runs, camping spots, etc. known before then. Post it or PM me, either way.

I don't think everyone is camping out at E Hill - including us. I'm not even sure when that faction is coming back into town. Also, my better half is talking about going hiking one day. I think we (the ones staying in town?) might be doing Behind the Rocks / Tiptoe Behind the Rocks* on Friday, Fins 'n Things on Saturday, and Golden Spike on Sunday. That's just an initial suggestion though, and is subject to change, depending on what the majority wants to do when.

* These two are parallel and vehicles can shift back and forth, correct?

Is there another campground reserved for those staying out at E Hill, or is it limited to three rigs?

This was cross posted to the August Meeting thread.

Permit is limited to three rigs and 10 people per campsite. At this time I'm aware of only one permit. There are four campsites total, each can have 3 rigs and 10 people. Devil's Kitchen could potentially be a total of 12 rigs and 40 people. I have site #1.

Have people reserved with you? Are you going to be at the meeting Saturday?

I don't think anybody has committed to share the site. I reserved for 3 vehicles and 10 people, not with anybody in mind. I'm going to the Rising Sun Rally, so I'll miss the meeting.

We can talk more about it at the meeting (for those who are there), but I would lean towards Steve's agenda, that is, staying in town and using Moab as a home base. I've run Elephant Hill the last two years in a row. It's a great trail, but I'm ready for a change. It's also far (~ 70 miles) from the town of Moab and far from most of the trails around town.

I also like Steve's trail suggestions - Behind the Rocks / Tiptoe Behind the Rocks on Friday, Fins 'n Things on Saturday, and Golden Spike on Sunday. I've done Golden Spike before - it's a blast, but may be beyond the capabilities of some of the more stock rigs. The same may be true for Behind the Rocks. We may end up with two parallel groups doing different (more or less difficult) trails, depending on truck and driver capabilities.

Just throwing ideas around...

Evan

P.S. Hell's Revenge is always a good trail option as well...

I agree Hell's Revenge is a good option - maybe for those who don't want to run e.g. Golden Spike on Sunday(?)

I guess I haven't really heard... Are Behind the Rocks and Tiptoe Behind the Rocks basically parallel trails, so people can choose an obstacle or bypass pretty much anytime?

So, who's going that won't be at the meeting Saturday, and what would you like to run?

I'm just going to be coming in for the run on Sunday and if anyone is around to run something on Monday.

I'll driving through the night Saturday into Sunday and will get to Moab Sunday morning.

I'll just talk with whoever and meet up with them on Sunday.

I think HDC should pick up the cost of the E Hill campsites. There seemed to be more people who were interested in that, and although it would cut down on our in town runners, I think more people might go if they know they can camp out out there, even if just for one night. Moab is a beautiful place and any newcomers that are thinking about it should do it, whether tenting it at E Hill or staying in town at a campground or hotel.

Right now the vehicles we have at the one site are Jon, Rory, and Greg. If anybody wants to get another one, I am confident that you (and you, Jon) will be reimbursed. Post here quickly that you have it though please, so we don't end up with 4 sites with one rig each...
