Of course even if I could get the thing for a few hundred bucks it would still probably cost me an arm and a leg to get it shipped and customs and all that Balogna that goes along with customs agents. Probably take months and a gillion man hours and arguing with the mafia just to get my car.

Post from 6 months ago...man was I right. For the amount I have in this darn thing I could have purchased Maria's and made more upgrades.

BUT who wants to go party in Charleston on a Friday and pick it up on a Saturday morning and come back. Tentative date is 11 September.

I might be down for this

Final date change. Looks like the Bill of Lading has been sent and the truck will be on its way shortly. Well not to shortly. The truck will be arriving on the 25th of September. Of course this interferes with the Uwharrie ride.

I'm going to see if that is something I can pick up late in the afternoon on that Friday instead of picking it up Saturday morning. It won't be quite as fun a trip to Charleston but then I could trailer it home and pick up the FJ62 and head out really early Saturday morning to get some much needed camping and trail riding in.

I could just trailer the 43 striaght to Uwharrie but it isn't registered so I don't think I would be able to drive it on any of the trails. Not to mention I want to see what my 62 can do.

Even if it was registered, you should not EVER take a new truck directly to the trails. I have personally driven one person out of the trail system to the hospital and seen the same truck rolled because it was not trail safe. You have no way of knowing if a 20+ year old vehicle is safe until you have inspected it first! A trail will test the limits of every mechanical system at a much greater level than the street.

Sorry to sound like the scolding dad, but I do not intend to take anyone else to the hospital if I can help it......or worse.

Well,

I sent an e-mail to ask for the bill of lading and it didn't ship and I guess I have to find someone else to ship it. I don't even know where the rig is anymore.

Sounds like I either have to find another company to ship it here or just sell it and drive on. As usual I just need to slow down, get all of the information I can, and make a wise decision.

Well,

Back on working it again. I've decided I can't give up now. I am contacting a member on Ih8mud and the broker that was helping me on this side to try and get this thing on its way. I'm going to be shipping it RORO now so hopefully that makes things a little easier and cheaper. I have to drive to Baltimore instead but that is not that big of a deal. It is only an extra couple few hours.

Anyone else have any hook ups for shipping? There will still be some tricky logistics becuase of who now techincally owns the car and where it is but I've come this far.

I don't want to jinx it but Juan has thankfully stepped up to the plate and is already moving forward on this with me at lightening speed. Hopefully if things go fairly well I will have it here in time to do some winter maintenance and get it out in time for the spring tide ride.

Still a lot of coordinating work left to do but luckily Juan's family on that side is willing to help with the leg work wich is the necessary component I was missing.

Just thought I would give an update. Wish me and Juan luck!!!

Well I don't like to count my chickens before the eggs hatch but we have one more step to go and and hopefully Juan can get it taken care of in the next couple weeks. After that just a few more coordinations....well probably a lot more but much closer we are there.

ETA is now April 2010 but hell I'm just glad it is all going so well. Again thank you to Juan and his amazing hook ups and diligence. If only we can pull him back into the Land Cruiser fold.

Well it has been about a month since the last update. I just recieved news from Juan yesterday that the car is finally in their posession now. Hopefully means they actually have the car...have to call and verify Monday. But it sounds like all of the paperwork is done and that the car is in the exporters storage until shipping occurs in April.

If this is the case it is just hurry up and wait. Perfect timing for when I get down to AL...not as far as a drive to TX.

Now I have to figure out the build direction. They have a paint booth at my next post so I'll be doing paint and body work myself. As of now it is pull the engine, paint the exterior of the car and engine bay, clean and paint engine, reinstall. Only has surface rust on hood so not going to be real hard. Has no heater so an AC/Heater unit from Vintage Air. ARB Lockers F/R. I'm doing this becuase when I do wheel it I want to ensure I can safelty and easily get myself unstuck and no vehicle damage trying to gun it. I just need to remember lockers get me where I DON'T need to be so they would be more for extraction then getting me places I don't need to be. Well that and maybe a very small shackle lift and new bushings to help fit some tall skinnies. Don't know what I think about power streering and disc brakes. That is a hard one to get rid of if I ever wanted to go back to complete stock. How about Dynamat the whole floor? Again I plan on driving this a lot. I have a nice vinly cover over the complete thing now so it wouldn't be seen, but not sure how hard it is to pull up that stuff if I wanted.

What would you all do as far as direction? I'm sort of in the same boat as Jerry. I have a dedicated wheeler but I of course want to use it on most trails rides....but might be more of a daily driver.

I think you have a good plan, no reason to keep it bone stock. add the creature comforts that you need for a daily driver. I prefer Damplifier Pro - Acoustic Vibration Dampening Mat over dynamat. but both do a good job. Look forward to seeing it up close.

That is a very good point. I must be watching to much Barrett-Jackson lately. Not like I am ever selling this so I might as well make it like I want it. PS and Discs would be nice if I drive it as much as I plan. It stopped very well though with the brakes that are on it now. Though I never got above 30 MPH.

I talked to OCD Beetle and as long as I could get some Bows from Eshan he could make me a top for it. But I think a Roll Cage and top are FAR down the road...3+ years.

I also just realized there is no stereo. Gonna need some tunes. There used to be a guy out there that would take stock muscle car radios and fit them with functions for Stereo changer, and auxilary input jacks so you could use an IPOD or something of that nature. Can't find his webiste anymore but something like that would be cool.

If you don't listen to FM very often, then i would mount an amp, and some speakers, then run a cable from the amp to the spot where you can plug your ipod into. no need for a radio just to use your ipod.

I did some views on here and someone did that exact thing. I have a hole to fill so I am going to put something in there anyway but that AMP/IPOD idea is good. I usually only listen to FM. I have an IPOD I never use but I might need to make an exception in this case.

An option along that route...might consider the new iPod Nano since it has an FM receiver in it, something to think about when it comes to entertainment since it plays/shoots video also.

$150 + speakers/amp/mounting and small plus, you can get so many colors to match your rig...

I had no idea they came with a FM reciever. That is very good to know. Makes sense to go that route. It makes wiring very easy and you can easily hide everything.
