So I am getting some free coils... not sure if they are going to be big enough. I have also seen some shots of quarter elliptical set ups that flex pretty well. So I am thinking about doing something different in my rear suspension in FJ62.

I have never done a 4 link suspension so I am not sure how to get the right measurements.

I am currently running 56" leafs sprung under in the rear with 38.5's I am getting tired of hitting the stupid spring-hanger and leafs on the rocks. I am running coils in the front with radius arms. I really like the front set up. I was thinking of running the same thing in the rear but people have steered me away from radius arms in the rear. Something about squat and anti-squat. I have noticed Land rovers that come stock with Radius arms front and rear.

Any suggestions on all this?

Oh yeah PS: I will be doing this myself and it is on a tight budget.

keep the leafs if they are working good! didint you just finish the 56"ers

how tight of a budget? i cant think of a properly done 4 link costing anything less than $1000 on your rig.

Lower links will still hit stuff, its just part of the game. the only reason i will eventualy link my cruiser is to get it hook up better..

how was eagle rock? any snow?

Eagle rock was a blast. Very little snow but just enough to make it slippery and fun.

Yes I just finished the 56's recently. about a year ago. $1000 is more than i want to spend for sure.
I guess I will hold off until I get it locked in the rear. that limited slip doesn't do jack with 38.5's. Maybe the locker in the rear will just push me through. The front pulls great but not enough to pull that fat but over stuff when it gets hung up. maybe I should just cut off the top, cage it, and throw a tarp over it. that will make it lighter.

you can definitely do a quality 4-link for less than $1k.....especially if you are going with coil springs over $$$ shocks. use your free coils and reuse your shocks, make your own tabs, buy your heims on the cheap and on sale (midwest control or similar), get creative on searching for the tube (square is cheaper and it works fine) to make your links out of, and find a friend who works in a machine shop to make your tube inserts then i would say you could do it for $500 or even less.

and it is definitely a thing that is worth doing especially in the rear. as well as long leafs work, you will be amazed at how much better a linked suspension works.

I think you can do it for less than a grand as well. After doing mine I wouldn't cut my own tabs again, I would buy them. Coils are ten times cheaper than C-overs (in your case free....sweet), and the link material and joints are the pricey bits. Heims are cheap and you can get them with the inserts. Shop around. I say 4-link. 1/4 elip. gets into alot frame altering and you still need links anyway.

x2 on Ruffstuff, he has some awesome package deals on heims/misalignment spacers/jam-nut and tube inserts/bungs

you might check out barnes4wd too
