my 84 sat with the motor pulled for about a year. when I finally put it back together, the slave cyl blew after about 30 miles. I bought a new one but just never could seem to get it bled right so I replaced the master as well. I can pump the pedal 3 times and it works fine as long as I dont take my foot off of it completly. if I take my foot off completely when i depress it it goes right to the floor.If I pump it 3 times and hold it down to the floor it doesn't loose pressure. It has yet to leak any fluid. I am not a newby to bleeding clutches and have changed both of these cyls on this truck and on my 79 as well without this problem. Is there a trick that I am missing? There must be something with the adjustment.
 
There's got to be some air in there, the system is dead simple.. The only adjustment is the slave rod, but that wouldn't cause the pedal to go to the floor.. How are you bleeding it?

I agree, air in the system is the problem. To air, you need two people. Depress the pedal and hold it down. While the pedal is down the other person opens the bleedscrew on the slave sylinder. Close it hwen the pressure is gone. Let go the pedal. Repeat process until only brakefluid comes out of the bleeder.
 
Did you bench bleed the new master before installing?

Like everyone else mentioned, you have air in the system.

air or a bad master.

just cause its brand new doesnt mean that it isnt good.

try a bench bleed and reinstall then bleed line. should be good.

a buddy of mine with a 62 got 2 bad brake master cylinders before the 3rd one worked.
 
I usually work on my cruisers myself but I do have a mechanic that works for me a couple of days a week. He does mostly heavy equipment repair and maintainence for me but did work for a toyota dealer at one point. When I had trouble with it I punted it to him. He and his helper struggled with this for an hour or so when I finally called them off. They tried bench bleeding both cyls and finally tried parking it on a steep hill and bleeding it. It is a simple system. Usually they either work or leak. If I can't fix it tomorrow I am going to cut my losses and order a new pair from toyota.
