Hey there...

So I just got this beast (1980 FJ40) to start and run somewhat consistently (points and starter on order). The clutch master and slave were ancient so I replaced both of those, flushed and bled the system via FSM guidelines. Nice firm clutch action. When truck is running and clutch engaged I can shift into gear but no can go. I'm assuming there is an adjustment that may be the culprit, but neither the FSM or Haines manual are able to spell it out for a first timer like me... In neutral, without the clutch engaged, when I eek it into gear it starts to grind. I'm in H2.

Could a bit of adjustment or even a wrong sized rod be the culprit? The new slave looks to be virtually identical to the one I replaced.

Anyone feel like advising a greenhorn on this one?

Thanks,
Ian

Are you sure the transfer case didn't get knocked into neutral?
No. How would that have occurred and if it did, what remedy is there?

move the lever from N to H2
Ha. I know that much. But I appreciate the input regardless.

I'm trying learn about all the linkage to see if something became disconnected because it is certainly acting like the transfer case is in neutral.

If you have any other thoughts, I am all ears...

Thanks

more history
has it ever driven under its own power?
is all the linkage underneath hooked up?
put it up on jackstands, rotate one rear wheel, does the driveshaft spin? in H4 or L4 does the front drive shaft spin?
have you tried it in H4? or L4?
you stated points, is it a central american rig?
