Went to drive my FJ40 around tonight so I let the engine warm up and went to take off but when I let the clutch out it wouldn't move right away. It started to jerk and then it sounded like the engine was going to cut off. I've had no issue with the clutch before this. I searched the forum for advice on what it could be and many said to check the master cylinder fluid level. The fluid level was about 3/4 of the way full per the pic of my reservoir below. Should I top it off? Any other ideas on what it could be?

I had a mouse house in mine and it acted like that. Pull the cover and take a look inside.

Sounds like the rod is sticking inside the slave for some reason. With the engine off, get under there and watch what it does when someone actuates it at the pedal.

Another possibility is that the clutch disc is all full of oil from a main seal or oil galley leak and it's actually slipping. Pull the inspection cover and check it out.

It sounds a little non specific. What do you mean by " It started to jerk and then it sounded like the engine was going to cut off."

Did it move?
Did the engine rev up?
Was it in gear?
Did the transmission grind?
What did the clutch pedal feel like?

It would move ever so slightly then it would not engadge fully and the engine would start to sputter so then I had to let push the clutch in and rev the engine so it would't die on me. It was in gear. There was no grinding sound from the transmission. the clutch felt the same as it always has..... a nice fluid smooth motion.

Dido on the ebrake check. The clutch isn.t tied to your motor meaning with or without a good clutch it won.t affect how your engine runs

Ebrake on?

You know what....I thought I released the ebrake but now you have me second guessing myself. I might be losing my mind haha. Would there be any reason if I did release the ebrake lever that the brake would still be applied?

It does sound like the e-brake may be sticking.

Still, 3/4 full in the clutch reservoir seems low. I would fill and bleed.

There may be some sticking at the clutch slave cylinder.

My master leaks a bit and I ran it dry the other day. Filled it without bleeding and after a day or two the bubbles bubbled out and it's back to normal now. I see no reason to bleed if it's 3/4 full.
