Clunking when declerating

Ok guys need a little help with something. My 92 Toyota pickup has started making a noise when decelerating. When I let off the gas and start slowing down or just push in the clutch and cost I get like a duka duka duka duka sound coming from the rear. I am at a lost I was thinking it might be low gear oil but nope plenty in there, then though it might be the pinion gear or the locker. I am not to sure and I don't want to rip it apart and just start replacing parts until it stops. If I do that I might have to sleep in my garage since the wife already hates that I spend to much money on my truck and not enough on her. So any help would be great. Thanks guys

Not really much play at all. When I try to turn it side to side it does move but just a very little bit.
 
Grease the ujoints while your there to see if it makes any difference.
 
Remove the rear driveshaft, lock the hubs, shift into 4WD, take it for a ride.

How many miles on this truck? Ever been into the rear diff?

I have 206,000 miles on it. And I have not been into the rear diff since I bought it about a year ago. Was not to worried about looking at it because the said he had out new gears in it about a year ago so it had according to the PO new gears put in 2 years ago.
 
Removing the rear driveshaft may be a PITA if this is an Xtra cab thanks to the carrier bearing. But that might be the source of your noise, they do eventually wear out.

A 20-year old truck with 200K+ miles is going to need stuff fixed. Tell your wife it's still a lot cheaper than payments on a new truck.

Yeah it is cheaper then a new truck but she just don't understand that part...lol... And my truck is a standard cab. I will look into it all and keep you guys updated on the progress.
 
I had that clunk start around 200k on my '94. Of course all was original, and I wasn't afraid of 2' water crossings. My U-Joints needed work. The rest was fine. The other area you may have looseness is in the axle to spring to frame area. Again. Replace parts as needed. My bet is u-joints.

Given that it has diff work 2 years ago, it may not have been perfectly setup, but new Toyota U-Joints is most likely all it needs, don't get after market. Those suckers are supposed to be greased every 15k miles if not used off road, and much more often if used off road, and daily if run through water. Most never get the greasing service they are supposed to get.
 
I would also take a good look at the slipjoint in the driveshaft. Sometimes it's hard to detect the slop, you need to put the trans in N and set the E-brake (chock the wheels too!), then crawl under and stick a prybar in the U-joint yoke and work the shaft back and forth, while you hold your hand on the slipjoint.

Mine does an annoying CLANK when I let off the gas, and it's the slip joint. I keep it well-lubed with Green Grease, really helps reduce the clank. That stuff is the best for driveshafts/U-joints. Very waterproof.

Yes green grease is the best I use it all the time for everything. And the u joints are good they where the first thing I check. I will try to post a short video on YouTube or on here for you guy to see what is doing
 
Ok found out what the clunking was. Earlier I stated when I first inspected the truck everything was sound and I thought it was coming from the rear. Well once I got it in the garage I went to disconnect the drive shaft and bam the problem just fell in my lap. Literally....lol... A chunk of u-joint fell right out. But you see when had checked it earlier the u-joint seamed good but oh well got it fixed now off the fix the newest thing that ha happened. Going to meet up my brother for 4th of July fireworks blew out a bake line.... Oh goody....lol.
 
I'm about to replace all brake lines on my '89 pickup. I may do my '94 at the same time. I've had two fail already on the '89.

My '99 Silverado is having brake line issues. Seams Chevrolet/GMC put in uncoated steel lines and they are rusting out early on allot of vehicles.

Yeah it sucks when brake lines go out. Especially when it happens while your driving... Lol.... I have never heard my wife scream like that as I started try to not hit the cars in front of me and down shifting and swerving....lol just sucks I finally got everything fixed almost fixed just needed shocks and rear axle seal and bearings.
