Chuck came by today to help on the shop. I had a little time to spare between work so I suggested we get the trailer frame out and start planning how we are going to build it. After about an hr of bouncing ideas off each other I think we have a plan. Here is the basic shape of the trailer to come.

I know it's had to visualize it with a pipe as the axle but until we can get everything on the trailer and the weight figured out I don't think we want to go out and rush into springs and axles when we don't know the weight of the axle.

We also figured out how we can store water. Build 3 tanks that fit up under the platform in the recesses. Each space is roughly 30"x12"x3". Equates to about 5 gallons in each tank. Giving us 15 gallons total of water capacity. Or 10 for grey water (think sucking up 10 gallons of water at the last stream before camp for the shower) and 5 for the sink and drinking water. Just some ideas.

There will also be four smaller posts that fit inside the main posts to use as a leveler. Also we came up with a top that raises up to give us additional place to put things and give us access to the inside. As well it will have two fold out leaves that can fold out and give us a little shelter on both sides.

Well we purchased a camp chef tahoe grill this weekend for the trailer. Yesterday I bought a griddle and the BBQ box for it so we can grill and cook breakfast. As well I got a propane tree for a 2lb bottle we have yet to purchase and a coleman lantern that goes on top of the tree. So we are set on the cooking part. Now we need to work on the suspension part as well as the tongue. I saw this suspension and it looked interesting.

I'm just wondering if it will give us enough height. We are going to need quite a bit. As well I want to go with 6 lug hubs so we don't have to carry a spare tire.

I figure the 1200lb offroad ones would give us 20" of clearance with a 35" tire.

That's the same link I found with pricing. Online reviews aren't plentiful but what I've read says they ride well. I couldn't find any off-road reviews.

I couldn't figure out the difference between the models that were labeled "regular tires" vs. "offroad tires". So, about $400/pair + 6 on 5 1/2" hubs to fit it, $110/pair...not a cheap option, but looks pretty reliable and stout.

I came on here to ask if it was worth the extra money over the leaf springs, but after a little research, realize it's only ~$130 more expensive than a standard trailer axle and springs from Northern, which would still need to be lifted. Hubs would be a wash. So, sounds good to me.

Yeah, I looked at that too. This one would also cut down on the fab time too. Line it up and drill some bolt holes. Probably a couple of welds just to be sure.

I like the concept but my concern is if we do this we will have to have a 6 - 10" block welded to the bottom of the trailer to attach the unit to, other wise if Marshall is towing it with his sprung over 40 the tail end of the trailer is gonna drag all over the trail. In adding this block it would seem it would make the trailer more top heavy and the center of gravity higher and have a greater tendency to tip. The other concern is the spring made out of hollow rubber, do they make a spare incase it breaks on the trail?

It's all serviceable. We could space it down another 3-4 inches buy building a frame for it. As well we could raise the tongue up maybe 3". That would give us an additional 6" of height at the tongue. If we don't decide to go this way. What do we want to go with? How about some real products from a website we can buy. I'm thing our weight rating needs to be around 1200-1500lbs

The platform is 40.5 inches wide so whatever we do we need to take that into consideration.
