Woh, looking good. Looks like you have just a "few" hours in the design and layout of that tunnel!!!! Muy bien!!

Nick

Thanks brother!
What a friggin PITA that thing is. Ill just be glad to be done with it and MOVE ON! Frankensteining it together like I did, there are a lot of gaps to fill with weld. Several more hours of trigger time for me on that, then I get to grind it all down....maybe!:D

Glad I LOVE doing this stuff. Makes it all worth while in the grand scheme of things. I may bitch, but there's nothing id rather be doing.

Looks great man! I am impressed with your persistence. I would have thrown my hands up and the part in the scrap pile looooong ago. Keep it up partner.

Hijack: Just spent three days in Moab with a guy from your local cruiser club, Ben Roberds (family friend). I looked into joining you guys for the Rubicon trip but a possible career change and a definite housing move within the next couple weeks but a big stop to that idea. Bummed....hopefully someday I will live down in that neigborhood, sounds almost as awesome as Colorado!

Ben is a RAD GUY! He hasnt been in the club too long, and he recently just said that he was going to have to relocate too, so that sucks for us. That is also a drag that you wont be able to make the Rubicon trip, but work is more important to SOME DEGREE! The outdoor life here is Reno is AWESOME, but the last couple of years weve REALLY been getting GIPED in our summers.:crybaby: Both my wife and I LIVE for summer. Were thinking about a move to AZ when and if the housing market picks back up.
Thanks for the props on the tunnel. Im happy with how it came out. The other was just too big and bulky. I get OCD about some stuff and this was one of those things. It'd be "in my face" EVERY TIME I got in the rig, so I wanted it how I wanted it even though it took some time.
Its almost all welded in, the weather is crappy today, so Ill be finishing it up today and hopefully starting on the cage!
Although, if I put the cage in, I MAY not be able to get it out in the garage!?:hhmm:

How tall do you think you will be?
Remember we have had my cruiser with the same cage in your garage a couple of times.

Im referring to removing the cage itself in the garage when I need to paint it and the tub.

Got everything unpacked and did sort of a mock up, but Im not sure where that B pillar is supposed to set?
Also, I got some plates that looks like its supposed to back into the rear quarters as it has a radius....are BOTH the B and C pillars supposed to weld on to that?

no instructions....

ALSO...the tunnel is DONE!:bounce::bounce2:
Just gotta riv-nut it in.
May also make an access cover on it to screw with the linkage if needed....:hhmm:

Let me know when you want me to bring my 40 over so you can look at how the cage goes together.

Might be working on the cage Thurs...
My primary concern is the B pillar and getting that set right as it seems the whole thing builds off of that. The B pillar and the plate the B and C pillar sits on.
Gimme a call when youre on your way home from work....
Maybe I can swing by if Im held up?

Thanks for the offer Rusty!

make sure that the B pillar will allow you to run the shoulder belts to a cross bar...

Watcha mean?
I was planning on running a standard 3 point seat belt system...
What problems have you seen?

Thanks for the heads up!

3 point belts? Really? when you can get the RCI platinum belts for like $70 a set at Summit?

Mace,
IMO, the 5 point belts are too restrictive and I feel that Id be less apt to use them properly especially when in those situations youre in and out of the rig frequently.

Just my thoughts on it.

IMHO, it's only your life ;)

I used to agree with you, and runnning just the lap belt is common. But the auto reel on the shoulder belts tends to degrade over time and be at least as restrictive.

I do remember one time where I ended up fishtailing out of control in my 40 on the street. Without the top and doors I came sliding to a stop my left foot was hanging out of the door opening and my body was over halfway out of the seat and out of the truck.
Three point seatbelts do a admirable job at keeping you from going forwards, but laterally they leave a lot to be desired. Even more so when there are not any doors to keep you in the vehicle.

:meh:

Do the 5 points have ANY give at all, or are they a fixed position? One of the main things I am concerned with re. the 5 point would be for when I need to see better for obstacles...for example, leaning out to see.

I get your message. Im considering that further as its a very good point.

You are the voice of reason and is why I value your input so highly.

You don't need to see, you just need a spotter you trust. :grinpimp:

Ding ding..

Honestly the view out a 40 is much better than your old rig. You'll know where the tires plant in no time. Leaning out the door will not help much at all.

I REALLY prefer the 5 points. It's even more important if you are going to use your junk to it's greatest extent.

If you are only planning on sunday jaunts to church, then go 3 point ;)

These are good points....
I have to chew on that. More than myself...I worry about my wife more than anything.

In other news....Got the cage started!!!!:bounce::bounce2:
Actually its not as difficult as I thought it would be so far. I had some sweaty palms going the first notch that I cut with the Pipe master that I had never used. It does a DECENT job....it gets you in the ball park, but its not at all precise. Ive still been having to go back and grind here and there.
