More of the bumper!
Got the spindle in today
Cut the rear plates to box in the frame
Ground down the edges of the bumper
STARTED making some gusseting plates...

Im thinking Im gonna scab plate the corners of the bumper where it meets the frame, make gussets for the hitch reciever and Ill also re make the angle plates on the top and bottom of the bumper and frame.

May be over kill, but...

Also, I figured the spare and 2 can holder locations on the swing out arm. It'll be kinda long, but it could work nice.

These little details are KILLING my time, but....now's the time to do it since I have the BEST ACCESS that I possibly could.

It looks like a friggin BOMB went off on there.
Every night Im working until the wife pokes her head out and says "are you coming in soon?" which is the quittin time bell.
SOOOO, I throw all the crap on the bench and come in.

I set the bottom of the bumper so that its flush with the bottom of the frame just in case Ive gotta kick the shackle hangers all the way back...

Im a THINKER!;p

Stylin.

You going to be ready for the Wentworth Springs to Loon Lake trip this spring?

UMMMM...if I were to guess, Id have to say NO!
Ill be lucky if I can do the Fordice run with you guyz in Aug!

Im hoping by June or July Ill be wheelin!
Once this small stuff is done, I can start actually putting stuff back together.
From here (after this frame crap is taken care of) Ill put the drive train back in and throw the tub back on, the start on the SOA beginning with the rear. Ill fab a wrap bar at that time. Then, Ill pull everything back out and paint the frame and tub. Then do the wiring and final assembly stuff...

That is not accounting for mods to the trans tunnel, the radiator and all the little detail crap to do with that stuff.
I have a feeling that Ill be calling you quite a bit for the wiring too!

Man that is still a LOT of work to do!:wrench::bang::meh:

Looks good dude...It's already come along way.

Oh and :flipoff2:

How did she ever get out of the kitchen? Shorten up the chain a little and she'll never get out to the garage.

So did you take the weekend off or what?
We're getting use to you making a lot of progress every week, what's the story?

HAAAA!
Yes. The wife and I went to Huntington Beach this weekend as a little get away. Took 395 down. Great time. LOVE the beaches there. Drove up as far a Venice, and down as far as Laguna. Actaully liked Huntington beach the BEST of all the places that we went.
Now I know where all the REAAALY CLEAN 60 series cruisers are at...DOWN THERE! GOBS of em. I BELIEVE I even saw a mudder driving OUT from the Eureka Dunes road. It was a green 60 series that a write up was done on about 5 years back...it had a Diesel conversion, SOAd...bitchin rig.

Anyway...NO work done this weekend. I actually didnt even THINK about the build except when we were driving through the desert. All I was thinking was..."Cant WAIT to get it DONE so I can WHEEL!"

Ill be back to work this week, Wed.

Thanks for the prodding!:flipoff2:

Are you talking about Exiled's old green, 4BT 60 named Princess? I would love to see that rig in person.

I thought the princess stayed in Texas... Never did see it after the engine swap but did get to see it at mudracks right after the spring over.. Don't know if the pic is still on the site but my truck and the princess were side by side

THATS the ONE I was thinking of!

Looked JUST like it, same color and all.

That was the BADDEST rig ever IMO!

STARTED gusseting the rear bumper to the frame...
Hind sight....I went a little over board and could have done the same thing with a LOT less, but its too late now. Some times I over think things...:bang:

Yeah...its a little heavy handed.
Certainly wont HURT by any means, but its not really helping anything either. Once you get ONE in, youre kinda committed to the other.

Keith,

I was going to just send you a PM but I cannot link pics to it like I thought so I'm just going to reply to your PM here in your thread about the shifter lever mount I made. It's certainly not the only way to go but hopefully it will give you some ideas and perhaps others will pitch in some ideas.

This is a 4L80 so I'm not sure how the 4L60 looks but hopefully it'll give you some ideas. The existing hole for my shifters lined up at about this point over the tranny so I looked at it to find a way to mount something to it. There was a threaded hole I wasn't using and the pan holes are threaded through the tranny case.

I used 1/4" stuff to give me strength and stiffness and added braces for more support. I shaped the base to fit the space I was going to use to mount it. When it's bolted down I don't get any flex from the mount.

I got longer bolts for the tranny pan so that I'd have essentially a stud sticking out on top that I could get a nut on. So that bolt is holding the pan to the tranny and gave me a fastener for the shifter base.

Here are the nuts to bolt it down.

Another angle.

Hope this makes sense.

Yeah, that is awesome Mike!
I appreciate the pics. That does help quite a bit. So its primarily bolted down with the trans pan bolts, right?

That is a good idea that I didnt think about.

Im not sure if I have that bolt in the side of the trans that you do or not...Ill have to take a look.

Thanks for the pics! I appreciate it!

Keith
