I just replaced some of the body mounts on my 60 with the boat roller stuff. The 40 mounts are different enough that I would not go that route. Actually, I would not do a BL at all if I were you. I'd just put in a fuel cell like Woody's. They can go directly behind the seat all nicely protected. You would lose the rear heater, but is that really a big deal?
Relocate your battery under the Passenger seat, and use the driver seat area for storage of a toolbag and a tow strap.
(and a fire extingusher)

Mace...
I was thinking about going that route. Summit have a cell like you describe. Its 30 w x 12 H x 9 d. The only issue that I see with going that route is it will limit the ability for seat adjustment. Not a BIG DEAL, but...it does cause some pause on the matter.
I did stop by Summit today, and picked up one of their 15 gal cells. It would fit perfectly under the front seat, but I agree, having the extra storage would be nice under the seat. Rusty TLC PM'd me a link to an S10 tank...That would free up BOTH seats. Just not sure how much room Ill have with the drive train being as long as it is. Are there any smog issues regarding the Fuel cells?
I talked with Lowcrawlin today and he mentioned that there MIGHT be an issue with the cap and the smog refs....I could set it up to a filler neck for the smog. Ill have to go down there to check with those guyz.

On the "OTHER" site I saw wilson cannt remember which as there are two had a tank that went under both seats it was flat on the bottom and had baffles to help with off camber. If your gettinng a new tank might check it out more fuel cap too.

There is another build going on in the 40 section that has that tank IIRC...Its an aussie co.?

I own the black wide Empi Racetrims and they are really nice, I'm a fan at least. Love the build.

I was looking at those today! They are a good deal it seems. Have you driven in them for a long trip yet? I was a bit concerned with the fixed position.
In light of this tank and floor board mod, there are a LOT of things that I was gonna put off till later are NEEDING to happen NOW. Seats are one of them. Although...I set the chewed up stock seats in the rig and sat in em...they are quite comfy.

Thanks for all the input here gents.

FWIW I love the stock seats, I'll replace the seat foam and recover them before I'll replace them.

Of course I've spent the past fifteen years custom forming the DS seat to my ass. :grinpimp:

Just to update....
I was ding dongin in the garage. I think this trans hump issue wont be AS BAD as I originally thought.
I cut the stock hump in half width wise to where It clears the 203 without issue, then I halfed the back half of the hump length wise. I could almost get away with just ADDING sheet metal to the gaps to where it all clears....To do this though, Ill NEED to level out the gas tank stamp in the floor pan.
This would be a TON easier than re building the hump, and I would NOT need to do a BL! I wasnt crazy about that Idea either truth be told.

Ill take pics as I go.

Also...for me to progress with this, I need to get the triple stick linkage figured on the t cases... Orange FJ45 MIGHT be able to work something out with his set up for me. I have ZERO CLUE how to build that myself. There really isnt that much info on others who have done that either in my searches.

If anyone has a good idea for the linkage set up, feel free to point me there!

Thanks again for the input gents!

Keith

Speaking of seats, what are you using? I was using some seats out of a TJ, which were fairly comfortable, but in light of Bamableach's thread about the deal on the Racetrims on Pirate I just picked up a set. $340 to your door (I bought the grey high backs) is an incredible price for a nice set of suspension seats and they have great reviews. If you can stand the Tan ones, only $275/set!

Again, I am really good at spending your money for you :D:D:D

Yeah...youve gotten my CC smoking pretty good already!

I put them in the one running cruiser I had here and they were great for a hour and a half drive. I'm 6'4 230ish pounds so they pass the bigger guy test. If you've sat in the Corbeau SS seats they are very similar in seat feel but my initial impression makes me think the Racetrim is a little more robust cover wise as my friend had torn his Corbeau bottom bolster within 3 months but your results may vary.

On the other hand the stock bench seat in my '63 is pretty comfy too :bounce:

Rat, where in CO are you located?

I live in Littleton right by Chatfield State Park.

Shoot me a PM if you ever head to the mountains to do some wheeling.

Ive never messed with seats until now, so I know NO BETTER on this topic. There were a set of kragen race type seats that caught my eye. They are adjustable, vinyl and about 300-400 bucks for the pair. Ill have to fab my own brackets and stands, but I dont see that as being too hard...just more time consuming than anything. Its amazing what one can do with a welder and a plasma cutter!:D

Wheeler, I definitely will as long as you don't mind wheeling with younger guys (early 20s).

Chicago, I'm better suited with racing and high performance seats than I am with suspension seats. Corbeaus and Racetrims felt the same wide version for wide version. The narrow Corbeaus are comfortable but if you're wider then you'll appreciate the wider seats. A friend's friend has Mastercrafts in his TJ bodied buggy that looked great but I didn't get a chance to ride in it so no report there.

The welder and plasma cutter make everything easier :grinpimp:

25 here. Sorry for the highjack Chicago, carry on :flipoff2:

A few pics of the shift linkage...Not sure if I like it yet. Its not too user friendly getting the bolts in and out where its situated, but this is the basic jist.

THEEEEEEN, I got the Lokar shifter installed! Ive gotta say, this is a NICE piece of engineering. Its simple and effective and it seems to be smooth as well.
Didnt wanna get too crazy, so I didnt set up the linkage yet.

Your build his looking great. I had that same lokar on a hot rod a few years back, and when I dropped it off at the shop one day-they spent an hour trying to figure out how to get it out of park before they called me for instuctions:bang:

Well, here's my experience with this issue. I went with a friend to get his celled buggy checked with an aircraft style cap on the fuel cell and they passed him no problem with no test. However, same station different day another friend was failed since they could not test the cap. I think it depends on who is doing the testing. I was going to make a fast fill adapter to adapt my cell to the factory fill neck to avoid the potential hassle.

WHOA!!!!
Where the HELL did you come from!?!?!?! You and your off spring seem to have FALLEN off the earth...
Thanks. Its coming along. A LOT of little details that require a lot of time. I seem to be moving faster than I have in the past with my builds. Ive got wheeling season fast approcahing with NO RIG to run.

Thanks for poppin in!

I went and talked with the smog guy who didnt exactly instill a great deal of confidence that he knew what the hell he was talking about...a different story...The word that I got from him was that it was not so much the CAP as much as it is the vapor they are concerned with. So what they are looking for is a way to vent the tank and how its vapor is contained. I was thinking like you...plumbing it to the stock fuel neck somehow and running it through the stock vent system Toyota had in place.

Thanks for the info.

Been busy but will get underneath soon and see if I can get any decent photos of the linkage like you requested. I'm liking your shifter mounting plate and I've always liked the looks of the simple and clean lokars.
