Pulled the drive drain out, and welded the cross member mounts and the motor mounts in.
For the motor mounts, I cranked the machine ALL THE WAY up and burned some BIG, GNARLY, BUTT UGLY ass welds. Those WILL NOT be going anywhere. Theyre NOT pretty, but they will do the job! Did some double passes on the scab plate just for good measure!
Next up...box in the rear of the frame, and try to add another x member to the 19 spline.
I was talking with Rusty TLC, and he had said that AA has a x member. I know the one he is talking about. He has one. He seemed to think that it could be used on the 19 spline. Either that...Im thinking that I could fab some plate steel to mount to the covers that covers the input shaft!? If that makes any sense?
Then...the spring over starts!!!!!:bounce::bounce2:
<DISCLAIMER!!!!>

I also told him about the pitfalls of the AA "propeller" cross member.

I remember a thread from a few years ago, where someone fabbed up a mount to the lower bolts that hold the split case together. From that point, it should be fairly easy to build a crossmember. They posted up a prototype and were even offering to make them I think.

I really like the crossmember Treeroot built for his Orion. Not sure if it applies to the split cases though? I have never personally looked at one.

Thanks for the input here.
In reading the posts that Ewheeler linked, it seems that its almost better to have the t cases free. Mark W believes that AA cross member will yield stress on the case. Makes sense. However, it makes me a bit un easy having only ONE x member supporting the whole rear of the set up.
I can see that though and didnt really consider it...if you mount to the rear of the t case, itll twist a bit and will have to relieve the stress somewhere....You get either a cracked case, or bolts loosening. Just seems to be a HEAVY set up is my concern...

I'll see if I can find the receipt, it wasn't cheap. The good thing was Jessie walked me through it and it was right the first time.

You might consider re-working the DC shaft from Jack for the rear. I don't think you will need the DC up front. It should be cheaper to do that and build a straight shaft for the front.

I had HAD drivelines front and rear on my 4runner, they worked awesome and were vibration free.

The driveshaft I have is a front '84-85, Mini-truck low mileage DC driveshaft. His plan is to make it into the rear shaft for his rig. I think the front shaft is still up in the air.

I freed the frame from the stock springs and axles...
I thought it would be in my best interest to get it as clean as I can from all sides while being able to maneuver it how I want. Also, Ill take a pressure washer to it and hit the insides as best as I can.

Got the rear frame box plates cut this eve....
At least before the factory x member.
I LOVE my PLASMA CUTTER!:D

Sure...If you wouldnt mind snappin off a few pics of it, thatd be great!

Thanks brotha!

Hope the knee is healing well. There seems to be a lot of that going around!

I will hobble out to the garage today and see what I can find. If it's not here I wi get my buddy to take me to the shop tomorrow.. If I hadn't moved last fall I could have put my hands on both the template and the actual plate I had cut. Please bear with me..

No hurry!
Thanks for the thought. I appreciate it.
If its the lower part of the t case housing I would THINK it would not subject as much rotational force to the whole t case as a 360* plate would?

Primarily, Id just like something to support the back half of the dual cases...more of a just in case measure.

Sorry for the delay...looked all over the garage and the shop today...then found it safely put away in teh top of my tool box...I was going to run it at the bottom of my split case..never got around to it cause I sold my 60 :frown:

I was going to use longer bolts and just weld the plate to a cross member..if this interests you let me know..:beer:

So did you get that frame pressure washed?

YES!
I hauled it out into the drive way, propped it up on some saw horses (got some funny looks from the neighbors driving by) and got it as clean as I could with a wire brush and the pressure washer.

BTW...I figured this, but wasnt for sure....If you are going to pull the REAR x member BRACE THE FRAME TO KEEP IT SQUARE! I ran a brace on the top and the bottom and Im glad that I did.
I pulled the x member, sat the tub back on and started fabbing my rear bumper.

Thus far its 2x4x3/16 wall. Cut some angles at the ends, capped in and I welded in a 2 in receiver.
I had to extend the frame about an inch to be able to clear the tub with the spindle I have. Its just a basic design, but it fits with the 40, so Im rather pleased with it. Im gonna pull the tub off again today get it welded in with gussets and scab plates and such and hopefully get the frame boxed in as well.

Thanks for the info yesterday on the receiver Rusty.

IMHO 40's look best with basic design on the bumpers. It fits the whole utilitarian look of the rig.

So did you break your camera or what?:flipoff2:
