HaHa. I saw this too late. The early 60 t-cases did not have a pto drive, but the later ones did. The early ones had a longer spacer. I have an example of each. I want to say the Fj62s also have the PTO gear, which is sort of a joke.

Thanks guyz!
Im over thinking this part a bit, but I DO wanna make sure everything goes back together RIGHT. So I taking my time here.

As I said earlier, Im taking pics as I go in case anyone else wants to do this mod. Its a bit tricky with the lack of info on it.

BAAAAD day in the shop this eve!
Tried to use a 3 jaw puller on one of the gears in the split case, and chipped one of the teeth. Not too bad, but enough to make me pack it in, piss me off and try and find a press which Ive found I desperately NEED for this job!

Lesson learned! Use the RIGHT tool for the job.

Is the chipped tooth gonna come back to haunt me? Its on the upper edge....
My concern is that these are SURFACE hardened and that chip is a weak spot.
However, I cant imagine that Im the ONLY person in Hx who has done something like that either.

DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB!:bang:

Used a 50 ton press on mine. I was surprised at the tight fit.

I know Sean is not in high favor in Reno these days, but he did mine gratis, and the press off/on took 5 minutes. I went back afterwards and gave him a 12 pack. It was cool of him to take his time unannounced to do this.

Andy makes a good point, although I think Sac is a bit of a drive.

I'm pretty sure Sam or they guys over at ORI would give you a hand with those gears. Maybe even Bayshore Trucking???

I have a press and replied to your PM.

Good thing you are scrawny now, imagine the damage you could have done if you were still huge...:flipoff2:

Just caught up on your thread and noticed you were having difficulty finding the 4 turn Gm box. If you are hunting in junkyards you gotta hunt for an old boat GM car.

If you order one from the local crap parts store, just tell them you want one for a 68 impala. They will charge a core, just give them any old gm 3 turn box, they won't know the difference

Got the 12 ton press from HF!
Took a half an hour to set it up, and about a minute each side to press off the crap that I needed to.
OOOOOH YEEEEES!
That's NIIIIIIIZE!

Im just such a cheap fxxxer that I didint wanna do that in the first place...

So theyre OFF, and Im off to drink some  with friends for this eve!!!!

I was gonna go BUY one from napa, and a few day later turn in the core on the one that I got from PnP. Its from a 4WD, So Im hoping they wont know the difference. They CAN be scrutinous some times.

If you're going to buy a new box, may as well get the larger piston box from the J20. See my advice above.

I posted some pics of the difference in size for the different boxes in this thread:

Would that be the same box as the Grand Wagoneer? You see those fairly often at P&P. That's what I got my Pitman arm off of. Say what you want about Jeeps but those battle wagons were as overbuilt as any Toyota.

WTF is this, and where does it GO!?!?!?!
Im not seeing it in the FSM, nor is it mentioned. Looks that it would go on the output shaft in the split case somewhere? Is the the pre load adjusting shim? It seems that it would go on the LAST bearing on the rear of the output shaft, the another THIN little shim, the a spacer, the the speed gear deal?

HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Ive almost got it all back together, but I dont wanna go any further on a guess.

203 to split adaptation!

So here are a few of the details to mating the NP 203 to the split case that I thought might be important...

So if you look inside of the 203, youll see the out put gear with a little spud shaft. This is where the main output shaft rides. When you disassemble the 203, BE SURE to KEEP the 15 roller bearing that it rides on.
Next pic of the main output shat where the roller bearings go, and then the roller bearings themselves.
Seems self explanatory, but I was un aware of this.

Next is the bearings in place in the output shaft.
When you get the adapter from Colorado off road express, it comes with a large sealed bearing with TWO c clips. The bearing itself is grooved. This is where the c clip goes. The bearing gets pressed INTO the adapter, and the c clip keeps the bearing in place. There are 2 sizes, and ONE of them will match the FRONT SIDE of the split case. The fit will be obvious as to which one you have when you look at it.

BTW, I used "right stuff" gasket goo to seal the two mating surfaces. I applied and spread it around and wiped the excess.

The first pic is a shot of the right stuff that I used. I just smeared it around and applied to both of the mating surfaces.
