I've been having some power issues with my TPI in my 82FJ40. It seems that when I fill it up with gas and get on the highway at high speeds. It will suddenly just bog down and I can't get any power. (not much more than 2000rpms) or faster than 40mph. Not only that, I will go thru a half a tank of gas going about 30miles. Is it possible I'm getting fuel in the vapor lines when I fill it up and it's somehow throwing off the sensors?? I was on my way to Moab yesterday and had to turn back b/c of this problem. By the time I got back, I was smelling a burning smell (like burn kettle corn??) with very little power in 1st gear. If anybody has any suggesstions, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm living in a small town right now and could use any suggesstions to have my self or a mechanic check on this quirky engine... Thanks for your time!!

have you checked for fault codes on the ECM and what is your fuel pressure running at, do you have a gauge ?

Thanks for the reply

I haven't checked the fault codes yet. My fuel pressure is dropping to 15-20psi when I idle, it's running around 45psi when I'm trying to go at higher rpms.

Check the egr control module, they get hot because of where they are and when they fail it causes a rich problem at idle and at speed, causes the motor to fall all over itself. The rich condition frys the O2 sensor and then it is a crap shoot. I went thru tps sensor, map sensor, IAC motor, ecm, all trying to solve the same problem. Started by a burst radiator hose that fryed the egr control and sent the motor into a tailspin. Hell we put all new sensors, new ecm, new injectors, fargin tpi, tbi crap.
