Well, when the water gets sucked out of the tube. You know it's good.
If the water changes level lots, but doesn't get sucked out, that's good too.
If the water levels are the same, that's not good.

I was confused why a tube wrapped around something from the Little House on the Prairie would help determine any pressure... :flipoff2: ;)

I guess I'm a primitive man because I need visual aids to illustrate what it actually looks like. :doh:

The tube takes a pressure reading from two places (above and below the bonnet), the water trapped in the tube shows the difference between these two pressures.

I fitted an Isuzu Trooper scoop to my Hilux Surf a few years back - it was more than adequate to get air to the intercooler. The engine was the 2.4Turbo diesel.

Here's a pic of the cooler in place - I got it off a Mitsubishi L200 - including the expensive hoses the whole build did not come to $200.

If I had the diesel Landcruiser I would have fitted an ebay kit. Lack of funds are stopping me fitting a turbo to my 1FZ but the intercooler is already purchased - an ebay special !!!

It's such an easy mod I really do not understand why more diesel LC's don't get them fitted.

It's a one banana job - although cutting your hood is a real buttock clenching moment!!!

Great pics! I have a question regarding the chrome inserts for the front and rear OEM bumper (black car with the ugly hood scoop) Does anyone know where I can find these? I just finished resuscitating my 93 HDJ80, but the bumper inserts really need to go. Thx!

I missed this thread, but now i am back on:p:cheers:

I think the cross country is great, actually i consider it to replace my 4wdbits, bigger, less piping and more to the front so the scoop would be in the good air flow area.

But i plana n other scoop, with the right scoop, i am sure i can get verygood cooling without fan from 20 to 30km/h.

I plan a big work on the hood if i go for this solution. A scoop similar to subaru impreza, half way between the normal and the STI. and a little more forward than the IC to be sure to catch the good air flow.

The crosscountry has a tube and fins core, i saw on a nissan forum, it should be a pwr core, but i can't very it.

Well, i think the only way to know is to try.

Now regarding the 4wdbits IC, i have been the igniter for our french forum orders. We don't speak much english in France:whoops:, so i made the link:cheers:.

So far i think we have about 40 of them, mixed 12 and 24V.

I try to keep feedback as much as possible and most, if not all of them are satified or very satisfied with it. But all gree, the scoop does make a very big diffrence, even out of the best air flow.

The scoop is really needed as this IC heat soak very quickly under the hood...what a surprise:D.

We also have a few guys against this Cheap IC , the cooler size and the intake elbow for the 12V are their main concern. Fair enough, might not be the best product, but at this price, i definitelly it is the best in range.

Next come crosscountry, then...safary and denco....priceu the 2 last ones.

I like to try things to learn, but i can't learn with too high $:ban:, so...4wdbits, was the first good one, and it is good. Now i Would like to try the crosscountry:D:bounce:, but first i need to work on my hood:wrench::idea:;)

It is not the external air-flow which will make a scoop work, it is the pressure difference between the engine bay and the scoop intake which makes it work.
