So hows it coming jim? I really like the look of what you made, just finalize it so i can decide to pull the trigger on one or not.

If i buy a premade bumper it means my stash of DOM can be put to other uses.

kinda slow on this bumper but busy as all get out.
i'm hoping to get brokenparts done in the next or two.
with the new bender these will roll pretty quick!!

i've got it covered! just real busy :D

BTW,this is jim on syvers log in :)

Great input. I just spoke to the fabricator and relaid the info. We going to remove the side wrap and shorting it down. I also suggested the lower main tube to be moved inward to help with departure angle. He had a few other ideas so when its tacked back together I'll take a few more pics.

Would you be considering pick up points for a Hi-Lift jack as either part of the basic design, or an option? Also, attachment points for clevis shackles? (Doesn’t hurt to ask now does it?)

Clevis points for sure. With the nest set of changes I'll check out the possibility of Hi-Lift jack locations.

for more of a trail set-up with cut quarters....

Attatcment point back to the frame are the orange circles

Rear stinger like Jim's is the black and attatches at the orange circle.

We figured stock body bumper to nail down the basic design. I have a FJ60 frame and body that we can will modify next for a cut quarter panel version. Since we currently only offer a few FJ60 products ( all drive train related) we will need to spend a little more time with this to formalize our selfs with the vehicles frame and factory cross member locations to design a solid bumper.

Ok brokenparts=broken paint skilz......JK

Looking at the side view the back of the bumper is all in one plane.....would you consider following the body lines more?

I agree with some of the other comments, a bit too high on the wrap around. The body has a crease there that you could follow. And damage potetial is a real concern.

I like the direction you took with it tho, enough different to not be a carbon copy. The fitment of your cuts is excelent makes a huge difference in the strength of the joint, and shows the attention.

Just my thoughts, from someone who is looking at building his own this year. Props to ALL who are putting in the time and effort to come up with new products.

The next changes will include following the rear of the 60's body line better. The lower main tube is going to be pushed in to help with departure and brought up to follow the bodies taper. The side tubes will be centered with the side body seam.

I like it a lot, like the side protection especially.

Does it matter if it is just enough shorter or taller to not cover the reverse lights?

kinda picky, but I have a hard enough time seeing behind at night.

can't wait to see the price

The side tube is 1-1/2" and we split the difference between the reverse light and brake light. They are still visible but I'm sure the reverse light would be less effective then normal. The lower side wrap we are going to try should not effect either, the lower part of the tail/brake light will be slightly covered but the I believe the tail/brake bulb is closer to the top of the tail/brake light cover near the reverse light.

Cruzrdav:

I like what I’ve seen thus far. It’s refreshing to see a manufacturer that is this attentive to the concerns and input of the actual end users, who tend to have a real world understanding what works and what doesn’t. I can’t wait to see the end product.

Any idea on when we might see photos of the prototype of the FJ60 front bumper?

Thank you. I think its important to know what customers want, sometimes it not easy to make changes but since we are starting from scratch this kind of input is awesome. We still have to look at what the majority wants and what is best for production but the more ideas we have to work with the better.

In regards to the front bumper, the "faber" as I call him ( since we have a non-disclosure agreement with him) stopped by this afternoon with his camera and showed me 2 pictures of the main tube tacked in place. Once the bumper is a little more complete I'll post pics. Please keep in mind that like the rear it will be tacked together and the brackets will just be whats needed to hold it together. Until we are set with the design there is no point making a finished mount that could end up being worthless with one small change (like the change on the rear bumper with the lower main tube).

Also if you are following body lines then don't forget about people with 1" body lifts or more. I don't think it would cause interference but who knows. I have not heard of a lot of people going over 1" on their 60. The new ARB bumpers have different mounting holes to compensate for 1" & 2" body lifts and keep the headlights centered in the bars.

STAY TUNED, Jim has some mods to this trail bumper that he is working on when his schedule permits that will definitely make this bumper one of the coolest.

need a hitch?
84 and i figured out how to put a sweet hitch in this bumper.
it will have the 2.5" hitch steel from frame to frame with some of the 2" round inside it.
you'll be able to pull Redwood stump out of the ground! :D

So CruzrDave, how is work on the prototype going? Any rough time line on when we might see a finished product and we could start pre-ordering? (I have been hinting to my wife that what I want for Christmas this year might not fit under the tree!!) :)

I agree with Philos 100%. I would want the top bar to be much lower. My thought would be just below tailight level and then wrap the quarter at that height. That would be about the 6in to 6in that he was talking about.
If I am hitting the rear quarter as high up as your bar is, I deserve the damage.
I am very excited to see what you guys can come up with.

I say keep the height!

I would like to buy a bumper that provides as much protection to rear quarter as possible, especially the lights. I have seen enough trucks slide into sh*t that ruined their quarters, and they didn't deserve it by the way.

When will we see a price on this bad dog??? even a ballpark price would be nice...;p

Jim and I will be finishing the Solid Rock Off-Road "trailbumper" tomarrow.......... hopefully. Plans to add a hitch and finish up the quarter protection support. Then when were done well work on the front (right jim?:)) Actually Jims so busy trying to keep people from waiting he is working tomarrow on other bumpers and sliders. So, I guess with Jim glancing over my shoulder once in a while and hitting me with his "Syver be good stick" it should turn out ok. Im pretty excited to see how it turns out. You fellas are gunna love it im sure. Im just glad my welding will end up on my truck so Jims name doesnt get attached to the sweet chicken crap welds Im gunna lay down tomarrow:lol:.

I cant wait to see the end product, im almost sure ill like it and im almost sure ill be getting one if i can get it bare bones as possible.

Its nice that everything jim does is to order.
