I have an extra 62 gas tank with pump and sending unit. What is the plausability of strapping it to the bottom of my existing tank and running dual tanks that are exactly the same. You could have a switch that could switch the sending units so your stock gauge could work for both. You'd also need to tee off the fuel line and have a 3 way 2 position solenoid valve or a manual valve.

Feasability? Anyone already thought of this or tried it? Legal since it's not vertical feed?

My thought was that it wasn't too low considering a spare tire used to be there. Hmm. I'll look at it Tuesday night.

Don't the long range tanks sit low as well? Wouldn't a decent skid plate take care of that?

talk me out of this, I like to see the other side. No design is complete unless it has been thought out and discussed among many people.

Pending the depth concern I only see mounting it securely as an issue. The off the shelf 6 port valve is a semi-spendy unit new, but are frequently found on domestic trucks with dual tanks. As I recall there are two p/n's for the valve, the diff being EFI or Carb'd, so pick a suitable donor if you go with a JY part.

I was looking at it last night and the depth as said by Godwin may be an issue.

If you could take the two tanks and merge into one then that would alleviate some of the low-hanging issue. Mounting the tank would be another hurdle. The in-tank fuel pump could be replaced with some external fuel pump.

I think at that point you may as well build it from scratch. If you fill every nook and cranny there's room under there for over 50 gallons. I've a SW model at work of a tank design that I think is about 40-45 gallons. I thot that I'd posted a screenshot pic of it somewhere, but I'm not finding it.

No way would I use an in-tank EFI pump. Trail fixes are much easier with frame rail mounted pumps. A Ford line mechanic friend told me not long ago that he can not recall ever replacing an external pump. Coincidentally the external pump of choice is a Ford F-250 (among others) application.

I found a 25" by 17" by 9" fuel cell made out of some heavy duty type plastic for $50 with mounting brackets / straps. Looks like it would fit under the existing fuel tank.

Who has ran two seperate tanks on a 62? Or should I just go with one big long range tank?

I'd really like the extra fuel storage but I don't want to spend $500 to get it...
