Hey there fellers: I’m essentially asking the same question posed years ago which ceased discussion in ‘09.

I’m looking for price estimates and recommendations for 100 series rear bumpers w/ a spare carrier. I would like to know cheapest and/or best value.

That being said, if there are welders on here I’ll pay you for your services. If anyone knows any quality welders in North East Florida please lemme know

Best value and cheap are different.

Rear bumpers with swings typically cost more than front because the R/D and materials are higher.

I’m not saying they can’t be made cheap, but do you want your spare breaking off on the highway at 75mph due to stress fractures or poor workmanship?

I always think of the age old axiom in the bike world: cheap, light, strong....pick 2.

Anyway, BIOR is solid (that's what I run) and seem reasonably priced (best "value" IMO). Dissent are super awesome, but pricey.....same for SLEE. Dobinsons has a rear bumper that you should consider. I do believe they are sub-$2k (about as cheap a rear bumper as you'll find). A few people on this forum run them and seem to be happy. I've seen 3 in person and thought they were nice.

I had a SoFlo rear on my last 100 series and for the money I was happy with it. I picked up an LX recently and decided to order another one. Per SoFlo they added a 2 inch receiver to the bumper along with stronger struts and thicker steel. It's made in China of course but for the money it works for me.

Front bumper will be a TJM17 and ProSpeed roof rack.

I really dig those TJM17 front bumpers! They look sweet and seem to be the real deal for sure. The SoFlo and the Dobinsons look shockingly similar. I wonder if they are the same and simply rebadged....similar to many of the budget rooftop tents.

Look in the vendors forum and/or the armor forum.. you will see there are a few guys that make them. Dissent and Trail Tailor are the guys that come to mind. I had to look BIOR up because I have seen it mentioned but being new to 100s I was unaware of the company... stands for Bump It OffRoad.

There's also 4x4 labs, and Trail Tailor is jumping back into the bumper game. His latest post about pricing puts his base bumper which includes a single arm tire carrier starts at $1900. That's a pretty damn good price point, and his work is top notch as well!

I would not buy a SoFlo bumper. You get what you pay for, a big clunky heavy CHEAP bumper. Buy once cry once. That said, the DIY 4x4 Labs bumper is definitely the best value.

Dobinsons. Period
$1600 and you get rear mount carrier and Jerry holder. Bargain compared to the $2500-3k you'd spend on anything else.

Soflo is just a Chinese bumper you can import yourself. But least there's someone you can go to for support to make it right when the holes don't align with the frame.

Doninsons. Quality is great I’ve beaten mine to death. The jerry carrier is awful. I bought a dual carrier from C4 fab and mounted it myself and it’s a massive step up.
The soflo quality is very low. The Dobinsons is a rebadged MCC bar which is HIGHLY popular in Australia, made in Thailand. In fact all the plastic bits say MCC. The cost/quality curve is broken because we get to tap into Australian 4x4 mod volume. Mine has been amazing. Would buy it again 10x over considering my jerry can mod.

$1100 shipped for the SoFlo. It doesn't pretend to be a $2500 bumper. I wanted something stronger than oem, can carry my spare, two jerry cans, and my Hi-Lift. It works for the purpose intended. Cons being it's about 150lbs and large. Sides hang down more than I like. But I've been thinking about having a welder shave some off. I bought one almost a year ago and from what I'm told the one I purchased last week from them has many upgrades. And you can't order it yourself. The designs are his even if he did copy them somewhat. He deals directly with the manufacturer in regards to fabrication etc.

I'm putting mine on tomorrow so I'll try to post pics.

Any pics yet?

Low cost- Buy a DIY kit from 4x4labs and welderup.

For the money- I think ARB would be the best "value" buy; decent quality, fits correctly, distributor support, probably in stock and available to ship, made in OZ, lower price point than most custom bumpers, accessories to match. Sometimes the larger offroad retailers will have holiday promo's and you can save a few extra$$ and probably get free shipping- Memorial Day is coming up. Some downsides I can think of is its heavy, departure clearance isn't near as good as BIOR, SLEE, or Dissent., and I'm not sure if it comes with tow points.

$2150 for the Dissent in steel with tire carrier with flip up table. If budget is a concern, VHT Epoxy paint it for ~$50 in materials.

BIO with a single tire swing arm is probably similar in pricing, has optional powdercoating and is generally awesome.

Consider shipping with any of these. These will all need to ship freight and will all cost a few hundred just in shipping.

A rear bumper definitely won't be the lowest price accessory to add to a cruiser. Lots of 4Runner and GX guys are going for hitch-mounted swing out tire carriers if their only concern is putting on a full size spare and/or getting it out from underneath. That saves the cost and weight of adding a full steel rear bumper.

I'm running a coupon on Dobinsons rear bumpers this month. Link to that thread is here:

IMHO!!!

The Slee Legacy bumper to me is as iconic as the ARB Deluxe front bull bar. I’ve wanted them both since they were developed. Years and years later, I finally got them.

But it is truly nauseating to think about the price

Rear bumper $3,395
Jerry can basket $275
Freight shipping $300

It’s a $4k bumper folks. That bolts onto rigs I see selling for $4k on Craigslist 😔

I love it..... But, There are bumpers out there at almost half the price. Would I trade mine. Nope. When I sell my truck I’ll probably just keep the bumper and hang it on the garage wall 😂 i know - pathetic

Sometimes you just HAVE to treat yourself to something real nice. And that is one dang nice bumper.

I asked myself the same questions as I'm thinking about front and rear bumpers. But looking at the Dobinsons bumper, it resembles the same structure as the original bumper and sits lower than the Dissent or Slee...

Damn that Slee bumper looks gorgeous! I guess I need to start saving my pennies for one...

I have been dreaming about a rear bumper for almost 2 years at this point. I just can't justify the cost even though I have scraped the tow hitch on rocks several times and twisted the rear plastic cover more times that I care to admit. A front locker and then regear to 4.88 will sit much higher in my book than a rear bumper.

Here's a snapshot of the current prices. My vote is for the Bump it offroad bumper if I magically find several thousand dollars

Bumper $ 1,650 $ 1,100 $ 1,610 $ 1,050 $ 1,400 $ 2,500
