it's been a breeze to change all the plugs except #4: the plunger is stuck down there and won't budge. i reinserted the lead a bunch of times to see if it'll pull out the plunger but no luck. any ideas how to get it out? thanks.

Can you grab it with a pair of long needle nose pliers?

Put on dielectric on the boot so it wont happen next time.
Be prepared to replace the plug wire if/when it rips off or breaks the wire in it.
My first plug wire change resulted in a separated wire to boot, glad I had new plug wires.

Long needle nose pliers. At the very least you can probably break it up and get it out.

PO had cheap spark plugs that ripped apart. I had to use 2 coat hangers bent in half circles at the end. Almost like using chop sticks.

Thanks for the ideas I think I'm about ready to try the less destructive ones (first anyway)

just an update. i tried the coat hanger idea, and moved on to a long nose double jointed pliers from home depot to no avail. the problem is the spark plug is in the way of getting a good bite on the rubber boot. continuing driving with one old plug.

Sounds like you are going to have to sacrifice the wire? I you do break it up, then I would suggest that you loosen the plug a half turn and spin the motor to blow out any debris. A junk of rubber in the chamber getting stuck between a closing valve is not something you want to happen.

Have a fish about with a dab of grease on the end of piece of wire, it is good to get as many 'bits' out as possible if the boot breaks up.

regards

Dave

thanks Dave will keep that in mind. i'm going to try this solution tomorrow and see first

After all the messing around in the spark plug hole. Tape a section of hose to your shop vac and put the hose in the spark plug hole to get pieces of boot, ceramic, whatever breaks off out of the tube and cylinder.
