I'm trying to "break"/loosen the 14mm bolt/line from the Filter itself (19mm). Its on there good, and with lots of other lines in the area, I'm afraid to put too much force and cause the wrench to slip, or even worse, damage one of the rubber lines running close by.

I'm afraid to put a little Blaster or WD on there as I don't want it to get anywhere close to the gas...or should I not worry. Just wipe the line clean when done (anything on the old filter, who cares as its going in the trash anyways).

Its not rusted...but I guess this answers my question if it has every been changed.

Thoughts?

I would not worry about using penetrating oil there.

Are you using a flare wrench or equivalent? I would worry more about damaging the flare nut if you're using a regular open end wrench and having to twist that hard.

I did this job and remember it was tough to loosen. Flare wrench is a good recommendation by Eyedaho. I can’t say I’d be afraid of blaster if you clean it up, there’s going to be so little left. Stuff some rags under the filter for the job and loosen the filter inlet and outlet before you unmount if possible.

One other suggestion is to try to position your two wrenches with a small acute angle between them, then squeeze the pair together towards each other with both hands wrapped around both wrenches. That allows you to put quite a bit of force on them, but when they release (the fitting turns) it's in a controlled manner and you don't bust a knuckle or break something else with a wrench.

No harm in using pb blaster just spray it cleanly and keep it away from rubber.

As with breaking anything loose , the proper tool and leverage is key. Longer wrench of the proper size + keep everything square. Spray some pb on there to help loosen s*** up.

You can do it , get after it with a little more oomph!

Mine still had some pressure on it, so don't let it scare you if some gas sprays out. Have more rags handy to wrap around the nut until it drains.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll put a quick PB spray on it this evening and wait a bit...put an acute angle between the wrenches (good call) and see what I can do. I haven't loosened the 10mm bolts that hold the filter to the frame yet...I wanted to loosen this line first.

Appreciate the feedback. Not sure i'll notice any difference, but probably doesn't hurt to put in a new OEM filter. For those that have done it as just PM, did you notice any difference?

Check out my old one. Not sure I feel a difference, but definitely doesn't hurt anything.

Wow...agree, doesn't hurt anything to change it. I'm curious to see the color of any fuel that comes out when I change it...not sure I can cut the filter open like you did.

I'll be sure to put rags under it too when I change it. I'll post pictures when I finish.

It's likely not rusted in place, just stuck. Every one I've replaced has been a PITA to break free.
