I took my cat off the other day because I need to relocate the temp sensor. Anyway, the honeycomb/guts are completely gone and it's up for emissions next May. So, what's a good source for one? SOR and MAF sell aftermarket ones for about $300. Any idea what OEM costs?

I also found this source from doing a search on here:

OEM will prolly cost about 1k!

on my 82 fj40 I went with a direct fit(ie no cuttiing or welding) cat, cost me $300 installed at Walts. I could have gotten one that needed welding for about $50 less.......not worth it for me on this 40. Pretty sure my 82 fj40 and 86 fj60 use the same cat.

the one in your link looks like the one I put on.

I called a local, recomended muffler shop and was quoted about $160 installed. Call around and you could probably find the same deal. (Toyota's quote was about $1k installed)

It's a durable unit, for the most part. you could get one from cruiserparts.net used. I think they run $100-200 or so.

They want $350 for a used one:

I'm going to see what I can find locally. While I"m at it, I'll have them put the temp sensor were I want it.

Move to Mississippi and leave it off.

The aftermarket cats referred to upthread are considered hi-flows.
I don't think OEM's are.

.

Anyone still have their factory cat? How is the temp sensor mounted? Is their a flange/bracket? All the aftermarket cats don't have a flange, but my after market one does. So, I assume most just cut the factory one off and weld it to their new cat. BTW, I'm the second owner of the 60, so I've never seen the factory setup.

So you still have your cat off? Grumble grumble. Does this harm anything? In actuality, I would think it might make the flow better? Hmm?

Yeah it sounds great at low rpm's. Greg said that all of his neighbors thought it was him making all the racket. As far as flow, I thought I could tell a difference, but I think it was all in my head.
