So, I have the original carpet in my cruiser and I have pulled the seats out to see what I'm working with. While there are some stains the overall carpet looks salvageable. My question is, do you think I can pay one of those mobile home carpet cleaners to go through it and it would be an affective solution or do I need to pull the whole carpet out and figure out a way to clean it from there? Any experience, ideas and tips would be appeciated.

Thank you

Do you have a pressure washer?

Clean your own carpet for $$Free.99

Lay the carpet out on a concrete driveway.
Soak with a solution of your favourite laundry detergent and water.
Scrub with a broom.
Let it soak for an hour or two.
Use pressure washer to blast carpet clea.
Hang carpet to drip dry in the sun.

Have done this previously with surprising results.
Might just have to follow by own guide for my current 80

I followed the exact same procedure and I too had surprising result! 2 out of 2 in a winner.

I put a tarp on my driveway. Used simple green and whatever carpet cleaner I had. Broom and didn't go crazy on the pressure washer and it looked new on all but one vehicle I've done it on. The one that didn't had been damaged from a chemical but was clean when I was done with it.

It's an old Hoover upright steamvac. that came with a hose attachment. Been invaluable with dog in home and made LC carpet look new. The sludge that came out was appalling after 20 years.

I have used the Hoover wet vac process and the scrub and power wash process. The scrub and power wash wins by a country mile. Makes a huge difference and well worth the effort.

I have a pressure washer but wondering if it would be too powerful and rip up the carpet. Has anyone used one like this?

Start with a 40 degree nozzle and move to a 25 if that isn't aggressive enough. You won't hurt the carpet with either of those two nozzles unless you are less than a few inches away from the carpet. The PSI rating is at the nozzle so distance is your friend.

That's like saying you have a powerful muscle car, but won't drive it coz you're worried it will shred the tires if you drive it . . .

Ok ok, shìt analogy! but you get the idea.

You don't have to blast it at point blank

Is it a PIA to get the carpet out? Then back in? Not sure it's worth it for my mostly-camping truck. Maybe if it was a nice shiny mall cruiser.

Carpet dries a lot faster if you can suck the majority of the water out after though. However you use your 80.. it is always nicer with clean carpet in it.

Good video showing a house carpet being cleaned. Our carpets are different with a plastic backing and they aren't perfectly flat, but some of his techniques are interesting. Note the amount of water he uses (repeatedly flooding the carpet). Watch the video until the end to see what color it actually is.

Even vehicles inhabited by little monsters (kids) can be resurrected:
