I know, it seems weird but I do kind of like it, especially in a 60 all packed up with gear
sitting in the back of a ferry .

that's cool..

How do you get in and out?

I don't know, just climb in with a door open I guess. It might be awkward, but could be convenient.

Something like that would be great rigged off the roll cage in my FJ40.

This idea has legs, I think it could easily be converted to fit between two rigs even, or truck
and a pair of trees, just to get you off the ground.

A regular hammock would probably work in that situation.

I have used the ARB bumper and a tree to stretch out in my Eno double nest with home made rain canopy. Best nights sleep ever!

Your idea is very resourceful.

I made a mesh gear "hammock" that hangs in the rear cargo area of my cruiser. It hangs from the 3rd row seat belt top loop, and the 2nd row grab handles. Its great for stowing bedding and clothing for easy access when setting up camp

If you had a wagon with a bed in back that would make a great place for the dog to sleep. Or just for clothes and stuff.

This is what I think of when you say hammock and FJ60.
I stole this from expo - I think the owner is a member here too.

I've always thought those would be fun to have.

Anyone know how this is set up? Like what are poles coming of of, the bumper?

@Ryan Carroll

He had recessed tube pockets frenched into the bumpers and then had two pieces or round stock turned down for a tapered fit with tight tolerances .... pretty cool setup. Have been saving some splined shafts and collars for something similar.

Hanging hammock from factory roof rack

Coming home from a great trip all my drivers were too tired to drive any more. We pulled out and found a vacant and shaded school parking lot and tied off. ARB bumper to the fence, Trail Tailor Roof rack to the tree, teenager on the roof rack, and two more inside. It worked great.

I've always thought it would work to run a hammock through the sun roof to the rack or even the ARB, then out the top of the hatch to the roof rack. I haven't tried it yet.

My son and I have camped inside our 40 side-by-side with our ENO hammocks by attaching to the cage. I did have to shorten the hammocks a bit to get the tension right. I just tied the hammock ends around some wooden dowels to make it easier to untie the knots afterwards. I cut some cheap window screen to size and used magnets to hold the screens in place to keep the bugs out. It worked pretty well I must say!

Is the first one a product or just a home made idea?

I like it a lot, but I don't trust my sewing ability to keep me suspended.

The one with the kid in it looks pretty secure (in terms of construction), but I don't see the visual evidence that it will support the weight of an adult male.

Really like the idea, though. Opens up the chances of more storage throughout the vehicle. That way it can be more secure than leaving things on the outside at night.
