I have have been told that there is a side ladder that bolts to the, what I call the D pillar (the back pillar behind the rear sliding window and the lift gate. I have two reasons for wanting the side ladder: 1. I don't want the view obstruction of the traditional rear mount ladder, and 2. I gave a ratherlarge dent that would be covered up by the ladder. If anyone knows about these ladders please give me a shout.

I have only seen a couple pics of them on African 80's, there is a company there that makes them, they also make imitations of ARB bull bars IIRC. Your best bet will probably be to have one custom made.

MAF sells one, if you have a rack http://www.man-a-fre.com/parts_accessories/rackladder.htm but it rests against the tire, doesn't bolt to your bumper.

Though perhaps that could be changed, or maybe fabbed to begin with? Problem is the bumper and the roof rack move indepentently of each other. hmm..

I've seen them on Dubai cruisers. They are subtle and unobtrusive. They look to me as if they'd be good for getting you up and down from the roof rack, but I'm not all that sure they have enough strength if you're carrying a hefty load and are pretty hefty yourself.

The ones I saw were riveted on the rear pillar and one or two steps had worked a bit loose and become a source of rattle. It should be easy enough to fab if you have access to stiff aluminum tubing that you can shape, though any other stiff material would probably work as well.

Sorry no pics of a factory ladder on an 80, but think it was mainly for UN spec Cruisers
