So what was wrong with the information you were given in THIS THREAD? <---- this is a link

Post #15 and #16 are from two of the more respected and knowledgeable Land Cruiser people in the USA.

Also-

If you read the posts, it was mentioned that it could be an adapter shaft on the rear of the transmission.

Why don’t you remove the adapter from the rear of the transmission and look at the shaft where it possibly could slip onto the output of the transmission and see if it has any markings?

After you do this, please post up some pictures of the adapter and the other side of the transmission.

As posts 15/16 said, AA did make an adapter which replaced the back half of the SM420 output shaft and had an adapter which looked wider than that. I've had that early AA adapter on since the early 80's. This one looks similar but more narrow. My adapter also has a step at the lower front which is not apparent on this one. My adapter is very clearly marked AA with the part number. I'd look at it and measure but it is currently hidden by the skid plate. It is possible that AA redesigned and narrowed the plate but then they would also have to shorten the shaft. The only way to tell is to 1) take it apart and look for AA markings or 2) email AA with pictures.

good advice and im sorry i forgot about my last thread with all that good info!!!

I know exactly who made that adapter, (I'm new to this "senior moment stuff") That is a Danny Warden from Placerville SM420 adapter circa 1986, before the 3/4" plate adapters came out. He made the aluminum adapter and mated SM420 output shafts with 3-speed L/C transmission output shafts by welding the two together. They were very popular in this neck of the woods in the late 80's. Thank's for the compliment Poser. John Pardi
