i have a newly rebuilt SM420 and have been looking on AA's website to find the adapter plate which was supplied with my tranny and am unable to find it. can someone give me the name or part # for this part so that i can identify it properly??

I have been unable to find it and would like to know EXACTLY what i have..

thanks

also thinking about selling this setup..hmmm:meh:
SM420 crop.webp

AA doesn't sell plate type adaptors. The output shaft on the 420 is also not stock, so it is an not a Warden's type of adaptor either.

good info, im unfamiliar with all of this so PLEASE fill me in!!!! thanks Pin!!!! i need mucho info so that im not in the dark

any idea where i could find one like i have?

Howdy! Kinda looks homegrown. Especially the way the output shaft is cut down. Just a guess. John

that plate looks to be home brew...also just a guess but im not so sure that tranny would be a 420...i thought it was just the 465's that had the longer ouput shaft on them...but im no expert, could be wrong

I remember vaguely hearing that there was an older adaptor (maybe AA?) that used a new output shaft that is just like the toyota J30 3sp shaft on the rear. The shaft is a lot longer than a 420 shaft.

it is for a 3spd Toyota tcase, does this help at all??

I am running a 350 into sm420 into a 3speed t case I will crawl under there this weekend and see what makings are on the adapter. hope i can find somthing you can use.

awesome, guess you didn't do the install??? thanks bro

anybody with anymore info for me?

Do your homework...

If your in Vegas who are the cruiserheads there and where did you get it? Its not a warden adaptor to thick his was 3/4" and a much finer cut.As for being a sm420 I need to see the other side all 420's have the big hump that will barely clear your driveshaft. What's wrong with using what you have?If its good make a gasket and go with it looks to be fine as far as I can tell.....

For sure it is an old school SM420 adaptor kit for the 3sp landcruiser transfer case. Try eamiling AA and see if they remember it.

As long as we're all taking a stab at it, my guess would be an old AA output shaft with a home-made adapter plate, but the problem with my guess is that the AA adapter that accompanied the AA shaft was alot longer/thicker?????

This has a guy showing his age, I think Jim hit the nail on the head, AA sm420 output/3 speed toyota t/c, whith a home made adapter plate . the early cast AA adapter plates were prone to stripping threads and the t/c would come loose. AA part #f for the kit was 711026, the adapter is 2.25" thick, A good adapter as you could keep the PTO. I have one mated to an SM420 on the shelf $300.00 if someone wants one. John Pardi
