Question: Can you overfill the oil in a 100 series Land Cruiser?

Recently had the oil changed w/ Mobil 1 EP 5W30.

Looks like a quart over the "F" fill line.

Yes you can. Sometimes I have a hard time seeing it clearly on my dipstick. I usually pull the stick out, clean it, and let things settle a bit and then check it. The problem of having a vehicle that keeps oil too clean.

Sure you can, and it's pretty common at the quicky oil change places. Jiffylube filled a good friend's 40 so full it over pressurized and blew the oil filter off. He's lucky it didn't cause more damage. A quart shouldn't cause problems. Did you ask them how much they put in?

No I didn't. Looks to be about a quart or more though.

Fumoto is the best mod I have done though.

Makes it so easy.

If you can't remember the amount you put in last time, fill until you see it on the low mark on the stick, drive it a little, then let it sit. Re-check, add as necessary.

@SmoothLC how do you like the Fumoto drain valve? I heard if you do a lot of offroading you could rip it out and dump your oil on the ground. Have you had any problems with it on/offroad?

I've got one and have been a lot of places with it. There are a lot more things that you would tear off before you knocked the valve off.

Lexus dealer always over fills mine. Think it's because I have them use Moble 1 5w30 and the full amount with filter is 7.2 and since they charge for 8 quarts they just dump in all 8 quarts. So you end up .8 quarts over filled. Not a big deal.

A little over the full line, do I need to take some out? Put in 7.2 qts with new filter.

I doubt you'll do damage, but it was reported in mud that overfilling reduces MPG.

Removing oil filter and pouring out a little oil, is easy way to lower level.

Happened with me. Took my LX470 to shop to rotate tires and they accidentally changed oil.
I normally do my own Oil Changes and being suspicious I checked level when I got home
and it was way over the fill line. I loosened the oil drain plug and quickly replaced a couple
times to get it to correct level. Got to be quick putting that plug back in. Drained off about
1 quart.

Got to wonder if the attendant looked up and saw 7.2 quarts capacity and simply pumped in 8 quarts.
