I don't have any keys for my 1976 FJ40. This code is off the passenger door lock. Does anyone out there know for certain what this code is? 0116 or 9110? My MUD searches have led me to believe this is the only place the key code can be found. Is that correct? If anyone reading this has a Locksmith who is proficient making FJ40 keys can you share his/her contact info.

Thanks again

I'm a locksmith in Grand Rapids MI. I have a 1969 FJ40. There should be a letter in front of the code number, It could be a K,R, or S. Did you lose the key or is it just wore out and not working right. If you want pm me with a picture of the code or key and I should be able to cut a new key.
Thanks
Rick

Oops! I meant to post up a couple photo's. I haven't figured out how to PM. I bought this FJ40 quite some time ago(9 years) from a good friend. He was PO #2 and hadn't put anything together year. He said everything needed for the rebuild should be there. Never thought to ask him if the keys were in a box. He shortly after got a divorce and sold his house so I'm guessing the keys got tossed. So no keys. Thanks for your help

Take a wire wheel or some fine sand paper and clean the area, Still think your missing a letter in the beginning.

Will do. I'll get'er cleaned up. Looks to me like the stamper person didn't quite get it stamped. I left the grease in there for contrast.

I started with a fine wire wheel on my dremel. Took a photo and looked to me like a T. Used 1500 grit wet sandpaper to smooth the surface. Ended up using 3000 grit wet sandpaper get it real smooth. Hope I didn't take too much material off.

Thanks Sarge. I see the K in the post wire wheel photo. For someone reading this post in the year 2032. Don't get in a rush like I did. Go get a good light to work under, so you stop removing material when letters become visable. Be very careful with a wire wheel, my light dremel wheel may have removed more material than wanted. I was using too high of RPM's in poor lighting. Obviously, I am not a Jeweler nor have the apptitude for it. Bull in a china shop.

Is the code K0116?

Regards

Just take it to a "REAL" locksmith, not the local hardware store. I had a key cut just from the number at a local locksmith with no issue. Just costs more.
