Camshaft Concern

Should I be concerned with this cracking? Also is there supposed to be a C-Clip or something? I was driving this before I pulled the motor.

Can the camshaft be replaced without totally disassembling the engine? It is currently on an engine stand.
Yes.. if you not replacing cam bearing.. what is usually recommended..

edit.. you need to remove oil pan, distributor.. and probably pushrods and rocker arms

Yes. Distributor, rocker assembly, pushrods,sidecover, lifters, crankpulley, front cover, and your ready to pull the cam out of the block
Bummer. I just put the oil pan and side covers on with new gaskets. I might have to find an engine builder who can help me. This is above my pay grade.

Well... it can be done with pan and side covers
 
Oil pan can stay on. Side cover needs to come off to remove the lifters.
 
I agree (having removed my camshaft to replace the front plate gasket) Oil pan doesn't need to be removed. The side cover is a lot less involved, of course. You have to get to the lifters to remove them before the cam can be removed.



From your avatar, it appears you may have an F engine. If so, be careful to get a camshaft with the correct drilling in the cam bearing. F engine cams were drilled on number two and 2F ones are drilled on number three.

Look for the Melling MC803 camshaft for LC's. Their picture show drillings in both the 2nd and 3rd bearing. $260 - $300 if you're lucky.

Ok. I will order the Melling MC803 camshaft. Is this an exact replacement?

If flip the engine and hold the pushrods .. it will work without removing the lifters
Wow. Upside down? I guess it could be done but if I was putting in a new cam, I’d want to pull the lifters anyway and have them checked and/or resurfaced. Have you pulled a cam out like this?
 
Ok. I will call Summit tomorrow and see if they can give me an answer as to which bearing is drilled. I have the 1F engine as you stated.

As well as a timing cover gasket, you'll need a timing plate gasket. I'd get a new timing cover seal as well. Items # 25, 27 & 29 "HERE"
Also the the 3 timing plate screws are slotted and can often be a bear to remove and may get torn up. The torx head replacements are better. May want to pick those up also. Item #75

No I did't .. it's just a theory.. :-) ... It actually a good idea to check the surface of the lifters.
