I keep waiting for LCP to reach his full potential and show up on a 3rd Friday with something more akin to this:

For me the standard roof top tent is a 'no go.' Me and the Mrs. need to be able to check in on the little ones downstairs either through the sun roof, or roof removal (I don't give a rats rear end about roof strength). With a standard RTT I'd have to get out, go down the ladder, and check out the scene. With a roof removed I'd be able to set up during a storm without getting wet, check on the little ones, grab a drink, etc. To me it just makes sense.

A few companies like Vamoose make a conversion for VW T5 buses, and I'd be curious if they could convert one for our L.C.'s . Short story is, I'm on the hunt for someone that can make it happen.

That VW van is very

There's a couple bucks into that concept

I'm still trying to shake the vision of LCP dancing on the top of his truck...

Reminds me of a song and now I can't get the image or song out of my head, thanks Murf. Now I'll never get back to sleep

4AM and stuck with an 80's Lionel Ritchie song in your head?! Thats brutal!

wish someone would start making these again. This is one of those things you miss out on not owning a 80 series sooner. i now try to buy a mods as they come available just in case.

I hope he does. I need another project like I need another hole in my head.

If enough people are willing to commit in advance to a cost of $6000 maybe a possible.

Next best thing is now available at very attractive price.
Alu-Cab Gen 3 Expedition Tent

My latest mod stolen from Alu-Cab

In the past I had a couple shock cords to aid in the ease of closing. The problem was they needed to attached and unattached when used. The results a waste of my time and something else to remember.

I removed the inside shock cord and added a 1/8" shock cord that wraps around the fabric.

Once opened I lower the shock cord down

Net results nothing to remember to attach and makes closing faster at less than minute total.

that a good looking tent top. i was just looking at the jame baroud on another site. My understanding is the james need to be placed on a roof rack where the alu cab is the roof rack. Does that sound correct? anyone ever use or see either of these?

They both need to be placed on a rack. The big win with the Alu-Cab IMO is cost and construction. If my 80 was equipped with any RTT on top other than a aluminum top it was be damaged without question.

thats where im at with rtt. I beat the snot out of my truck. Im nervous to put anything on my truck that cant take a beating. For some reason i seem to end up on narrow trails all the time and have countless Colorado pinstripes all over the vehicle. Strength is a must.

been on the fence with the sc and rebuild. pulled the trigger on the rebuild last week threw slee. jumped on the sc group buy threw here last week as well. figured if i didnt end up installing the sc will rebuilding i would sell it here. Need more power to the fz as i live in colorado and do 40 - 45 mph on I70 up and down the mountains and i hate it. was hoping the rebuild and sc would fix the issue.

This could be a game changer to those fiberglass ones. For a few dollars more you get some very solid construction. I like the additional storage they have for shoes etc as shown in the video.

So now your " closing up camp" has gone from 1:30 minutes to 1:05. The fastest and most efficient camp set up Ive had the pleasure to witness. Gotta wake up early just to get a jump on breaking camp :hillbilly: with LCP
