Hello All
I am new to the LC world - just bought an 80. Expect like all my other projects, will end up spending way more than I want to but hopefully will enjoy the ride.

I am buying a 96 Land Cruiser. There is a coolant leak in the rear heater system. I would like to drive it back.
I was hoping to bypass the coolant travelling to the rear system to give me a way to drive it w/o leaking as easily as possible.

I was looking at this from Wits End. But am not clear if this is everything I need or not. Also not clear about how quick and easy and tools needed to make the swap at the sellers house so I can drive home. I will need to bring everything with me to complete.

1FZ-FE (95-97) Work Around Kit/Rear Heater Bypass – Kit 3b

I have found quite a few threads searching but not something that was clear exactly what would be the best way to use minimum time and materials to just bypass in the easiest way possible to be able to drive one of these home.

Thanks,
Keith

People will say use the search method but here is a link to a heater bypass that might help you.

Heater By-Pass

Along with @NLXTACY you can go with @LandCruiserPhil for the heater by-pass hose. I have bought parts from both of them and can't say enough about them. There is no reason to feel like you will get scammed.

Thanks
I had searched enough to know that the answer was probably there but being a little cautions as a newbie and needing to have the right stuff there when I get the truck.

I ordered the Gates from LCP
Hopefully will get here by Friday so I can go get the truck Saturday.

Thanks again

I've got the rear heater sitting in my garage. You might want to keep it in working condition if you are in Colorado. Find the leak, if it's the hard lines under the rig then just buy Gates heater hose by the foot. You could zip tie the hose to the rusted out hard line until a more permanent solution can be had.

Welcome to the money pit mate!
Joey's kit contains everything you'll need for bypassing...just the rear heater. No less but no more.
How significant is the leak? For how long it has been leaking? It is the only leak? How's the overall shape of the rig? Well maintained?
If the leak is small-kind of just dripping and the trip back home is short, perhaps you want to consider two options:
1) Do a quick and dirty by pass by getting a few feet of 5/8' hose and clamps from Napa or similar and follow the instructions other members just posted
2) Keep adding distilled water while keeping a very close eye to the temp until you get home. An ODB II reader such as Scansource II is the best-if the only- tool for this task as you can measure the temp to the degree). Don't trust the dash temp gauge (it's numb by design)
The first option is the safest.
The second could be riskier-and to be avoided if the leak is significant or if you have to drive long miles
Once back home, make a thorough examination of the entire cooling system and work from there. Chances are you will have to do more work...like the overhaul of the cooling system: then buy all good stuff from Joey.;)
Good luck!
Cheers!

I bought a barb at Napa and some hose and deleted mine. In Texas so didnt need it and it seemed like when I replaced the carpet it was a good time. Bought me a little room under my seat. Thread below.

If I was in a situation where I just needed to bandaid the problem so I could drive the truck home, I would show up with extra coolant and a couple of pairs of hose pinch off pliers.

Just squeeze and lock the pliers on the hoses and top off the coolant and drive it home.

Customers clean photo of before and after rear heater delete using our hose.
