It looks great in the pictures. It's a totally different story in real life. It needs a new paint job, interior is wrecked, underside is clean, engine bay is filthy (mud everywhere).

It was auctioned by Manheim for 12.5K. I'm offering 13.5K tomorrow. It will be a pain in the ass to swap the parts over, sell my truck, and do all the above to the 06. It needs A LOT of work to be a good looking rig. Pictures show 10% of the story.

Can you get your hand inside some spots that might hold packed in mud? 16" wheels, mud everywhere, filthy, codes...... Sounds like a flooded vehicle. Maybe bring some tools along and pull the seats or lift some carpet and see what's doing.

Good thinking. I'm betting a hose in the frame rails will be a easy story. Mud accumulates in the frame quickly. I flush mine out every month and I'm amazed at how much is in there. The carpet was very clean, the seats in good shape, just a lot of dust everywhere.

Hello all, I'm looking for a 100 series for my wife, I'm an 80 series owner and came across this '06 lx470 here in Bellingham, WA. These things are pretty rare up here, I saw it on the lot and went in for a test drive. It seems super clean in and out, drove fantastic (first time driving 100 series/lx). I haven't looked at the car fax yet, they say its up to date on all services but I haven't verified yet. KBB puts it at about $21k, they are asking $26k. It does seem like high miles for an '06... But everything is in excellent shape. Here's the linky:

What do you all think? I know there's not a lot of known facts right now... BUT... First impressions? Pricing? Thanks!

Nice truck. The 06's and 07's do go for more, but personally that is a lot of money for 164k miles even though it is a 100.

BTW, the 2003 in Everett has serious damage repair that the owner won't tell you about. I have the WSP report if you want it.

Yeah from the start I knew some major negotiation would have to happen. I'm finding it hard to come up with a price on my end that I would feel comfortable with - IF everything pans out in good order mechanically and such. It's a high end dealership, porches, audis and vws. They may be just fine holding on to it waiting for a top dollar buyer. My gut instinct is saying they would have to come down at least 6k. They might laugh me off the lot!

You can always offer your price now and then come back to them in a month when it doesn't sell...

Well it sold to a guy overseas apparently. He paid $23,500. Pretty bummed out, it really was in great shape... Oh well, next time!

Has it sold sold or is there just an agreed price? Overseas has a high probability of failure. You may still be in the hunt.

FWIW, I live in Seattle and looked all over the state for several months. Prices are just plain higher in Washington and Oregon for some reason. I ended up buying mine in Idaho in May, and some of the overpriced ones I looked at on dealers' lots before I bought are STILL sitting there at the same prices. I don't get it, but there it is.

Yep. There's an 05 in Portland that's been for sale for a year. I don't get the economics of it; sell it at a loss and keep the cash moving if you have to. Not much of a business in holding inventory that long even if it means a write off.

The PNW is definitely a net importer of 100s.

Hey guys, I've got my eye on a 2002 with 97K miles on it. The truck is stock and in good condition. Both inside and out look great, engine bay is spotless (it is at a dealer though) and the truck seems to run great. Trying to find out if timing belt has been done. What is a fair price on this truck? It has been a Texas truck, so rust is not an issue. The truck is silver exterior and grey interior, good tires (although street tires) and it is not too far from me. All the electronics work, seems to be loaded with all the options. Any reason not to buy an 02? I have an 80 series, and I am thinking of buying the 100 to travel in and just wheel the 80. What do you guys think its worth?

$18k if the timing belt is done.

$18k should get you into an '03/4 nowadays. The '02's are a tough sell for me. They offer little-to-nothing over an 00 or 01, and I'm not willing to pay for low miles. Personally, I'd have a hard time paying over $12K for an '02. Lots of trucks out there, and they aren't exactly flying off the shelf at asking prices...

i just saw a beautiful one owner black 2003 LX470 in the denver area, a hair over 87k miles, go for 19k. missed it by 2 hours. ugh.

The sticker should be clearly visible in the engine bay, either on top of the airbox, radiatior or radiator support usually.

I agree with Re_gud on price. $17k easily gets you into an '03. Given the low mileage and excellent condition, I think closer to $15k would be a good deal.

If they haven't done the t-belt service and they'd be willing to do that, plus water pump, serp belt, etc (i.e. a fresh 90k service) then $17k might be pretty appealing. There seem to be a decent number of nice LCs down in Texas, so you've got a larger/better pool than most from which to search.

... and I'm not willing to pay for low miles.

I find your philosophy interesting. I'm not trying to start a pizzing contest, but my thoughts are different:

In my experience mechanical things wear out from use, not from the passage of time. So I look for older vehicles in really nice shape with VERY low miles. In my opinion depreciation is more age related than mileage, yet the life of the vehicle is more a function of mileage than age.

One thing I'll calculate is the depreciation cost per mile. For example the 2002 LX470 I bought about 2 1/2 years ago had just under 43,000 miles. The previous owners (two) had "eaten" almost exactly $40,000 of depreciation (based on list price) which works out to $.93 per mile. That's brutal!

Hypothetically, suppose you bought a new Land Cruiser for $50K and put 240,000 miles on it before selling it for $10K. (I think that's a reasonable example.) You'd be at 16.7 cents per mile in depreciation.

Certainly the newer Land Cruisers and LX470's have more desirable features (5-speed and VVTI are two). But at the time I bought the price differential was huge, and even the oldest 100 series vehicles are darn nice in terms of capability and comfort.

Curious as to your thoughts...
