Somebody from here needs to buy that thing and put a Pioneer head in it just cuz.

Nick- We'll look at that beast very soon. Is your schedule still flexible with school?

You all better chill on that 06. I just did a little math and I think it may be time to step up to the VVTI club. Going later this week to look at it. If all works out, I may be part swapping (ugh).

I just went and drove the 2006 (10 minutes away from me). So here is the low down on it.

It's a truck you buy to wheel and not really care about. Half the truck has been repainted with what appears to be a can of spray paint. This truck has spots of OEM paint that is heavily pinstriped. The owner of the dealer said the auction house repsrays cars, so in short the (fresh) paint is in horrible shape. The driver door has been fixed by monkeys, the door handle has epoxy coming out from the edges and the door does not line up. So you literally have to slam it shut. I think the PO may of slid into a tree and tried to fix it cheaply before selling it. The front bumper is pretty beat up, and the fog lights have mud in them.

Onto the interior. The instrument cluster has dust, bugs, and scratches on it. The center console has large scratches, and dings all over the place. The radio has paint worn off in spots (volume knob). There is a unique dust smell inside, I think the owner lived on a farm...

It drives fabulous, tight as can be, MUCH faster than my 2000. It has KM-2's on it with good tread (20K left). Radio works, lights work, seats work, telescopic wheel works, CV's look great, no leaks underneath and skid plates are untouched. So this truck probably saw a bunch of dirt roads, no real wheeling.

All in all, if you want a 2006, with VVTI and the 5spd and plan on wheeling the snot out of it, BUY THIS TRUCK. If you want to pick up clients in a nice shiny 06 that's mildly built, look elsewhere. This is a truck you build to drive cross country, smash around on rocks, and drive back home. Nothing more nothing less. So in short, perfect for me :D

It does have a deposit (which one of you is from Virginia????), if the deal falls through I am putting a deposit on it and you'll see my truck for sale.

Glad I could point you in the right direction.

I pulled the service records and it was throwing codes and the previous owner ripped the skid plate off and had the dealer pull the runnings boards early last year. That was a mud/duck hunting truck for someone near memphis and I'm pretty sure I saw it for sale before because of the earlier LX wheels and KM2 combo on that color LC was for sale in that area a few months ago.

Ha. I pulled the service records too. He paid money to have the dealership remove the running boards.

Lots of codes being thrown.

Which codes were being thrown? I'm pretty sure that 06 has had the s*** ran out of it. It's tempting, I may let somebody else go for it. The more and more I think about it, the more and more I see wrong with the truck and see the abuse it's taken.

In this picture you can see the door sagging quite badly.

Matt,

I sent you a PM on FaceBook

I've got mine in the classifieds @8500....dealer is offering me 6K on it toward a Tundra 4wd Crewmax LTD...he started out at 2 grand...lol can't blame him for trying I guess.... Just did the T belt,wp,Starter, and T hoses. Rad and Alt not too long ago....I still wonder if I can part with it, but I need a pickup.

Is 8500 a fair price for a 99 with 240K?

Thanks for the detailed write up and the PM! It sounds like it could be the right truck for the right person, but I'd venture to say it's still overpriced with the damage. It's too bad because it looked like a pretty sweet and rare find!

The thing about the 2006/07 is the bling. It's refined and updated front end, LED tails, and more power.

I'm on my 4th UZJ. First was a 2000 LC that I had over 4 years. Great truck. Got a 07 for a steal of a deal and drove it a little less than a year and actually cleared a couple grand extra when I traded it in. It was nice - $38k worth of NADA nice and way too $$$ to offroad. The next was a 2004. Great combination. Has the 5-speed and interior updates and I eventually swapped out the front to a 06+ grille and headlights. Best overall for a DD that's not too pricey to wheel (at the time). The 5-speed is MOST of the upgrade in power. The VVTi only kicks in for passing and hard acceleration.

This time around I was looking for a cheap toy to wheel. I got the 01 LX with damage and am paying cash so no regrets when Murphy comes for a visit.

Anyway, I think the sweet spots are 2000-2001 because they're cheap and have ATRAC. The second in line is the 2003-05 because they offer the best power upgrades. Next is 98-99 because they're uber cheap, and lastly the 06-07. All my opinion but that's how they shake out for me. About the only 06-07 I'd wheel hard would be a 200k+ truck that was sub $12k. They're just not that cheap, not yet.

All that is fixable. Get on it. Offer 13k or so.

$13k?? Isn't $18.5 already an awesome deal if that's the kind of truck you're looking for?

A countrywide autotrader search lists 46 '06-07s for sale, the next cheapest is $24k! The computer codes are the most worrisome part. The cosmetics and even the door and bodywork could be fixed relatively easily, especially if you didn't need it to be perfect. A little elbow grease on the interior and you'd be good to go. I'd be worried that the codes indicate he had it flooded, mudded or some other fairly serious issue.

With all the carfax, autocheck, owner history, etc. it probably wouldn't be too hard to track down the previous owner and ask him for the info!

Because you make the money on the buy and this truck needs lots of love.

It looks great in the pictures. It's a totally different story in real life. It needs a new paint job, interior is wrecked, underside is clean, engine bay is filthy (mud everywhere).

It was auctioned by Manheim for 12.5K. I'm offering 13.5K tomorrow. It will be a pain in the ass to swap the parts over, sell my truck, and do all the above to the 06. It needs A LOT of work to be a good looking rig. Pictures show 10% of the story.
