Great donor for a wheeler. As long as the trans is OK just go for it! Can't loose at that price.

Hey All,

Been lurking on 'mud since 2003 when I researched and bought a 97 'runner. 'Mud has been a great help in maintenance and problem solving. It's been a SOLID vehicle. Thanks!

Now looking for a 100 as a family/Mountain expo vehicle. Casual use - we have a small commuter as a DD.

Simple question - if you were limited in knowledge and time for wrenching (two young kids) would you buy a 100 with supercharger? I'm into the 100's for reliably, robustness and size. The SC is not high on my priority list and I don't want a high-maintenance component.

If a SC not a issue with reliability I'm happy enough to have one.

I'm considering Radd Cruiser's rig:

Now, back to reading about 100's, superchargers and too much other stuff on 'Mud...

Looking at a 100 (have an 80 now) is this a good price?

Hello fellow mudders, I have had my 80 series for 8 years now and still love it. Its beautiful and has been problem free- only preventative maintenance needed. The :princess: doesn't like it as much as I do, and we live in Atlanta where the drivers are extremely aggressive (and stupid) and you need lots of HP to avoid getting rear ended here pulling out onto the road. The 100 series would help a little here having some more HP. and wife likes it more also.

I found a nice 2000 model 100 series (manufacture date of June 2000) and love the color combination- its a one owner car, no accidents, no paint work with good records from rust free area. It has ~ 69,000 miles on it, which seems to be one of the lowest miles ones I could find. The mileage checks out with carfax/recipts also.

Owner was asking 20K, indicated he will sell for less. It looks like the perfect Cruiser for me, but looking at Kelley Blue book etc, seems to be overpriced.

Whats a fair price for one of these? I may finance it for a short time until I sell the other.

thanks!

Just my personal opinion, forced injection of any kind has more parts to fail and puts systems under greater stress which inherently has the likelihood of reducing reliability. I'm not pointing to empirical data (though it would likely agree), but that's been the way I've always looked at after owning both naturally aspirated and many turbo'd cars - 4 turbo Audis, 1 turbo Volvo, no SC'd cars. One of the main reasons I bought the 100 was unsurpassed reliability, and I couldn't care less that it's as not fast as my prior vehicles. I personally would not want an SC, but who knows it could be just as good but with more power.

THX for the link - I guess I posted in wrong place- I am hoping to get it for 18 or so. Now I need to research what the problem is that some 2000 year models have with transmission?

06-07 100 and 08 200

What is the price gap currently between the 08 200 series and the later 100s ?

Is it close enough to make future 06-07 100 owners consider an early 200?

20k is a bit high. I got my 2000LX earlier this year with similar mileage and one owner for 16k.

Btw the wife loves the 100 more than the 80.

Getting closer...I've seen 2008's come down to around $40k. However I don't look that much. Do some searching on autotrader, cars.com, and ebay.

I'm going to guess a 200 will be around a $10-20k increase over a later model 100.

I love your rigs! I actually parked next to your 100 last Saturday night in the parking lot at Landmark - we were heading to Happa and I always park in the back over there. I wasn't in my 100 though otherwise she would have been jealous of all the cool equipment that she doesn't have yet :D

Not at all. You can use one of the newer ones if you want

$18k is still high, you can find '03s for that. Now granted there is a nice service history with the one owner and low miles going for it, but remember age is a factor with any car or truck (albeit a smaller one with these rigs). The saying "Get the newest you can afford." comes to mind.

Why ? please share your thoughts :)
Toyota hit a sweet spot with the 100 series, it's a beautiful design, classic lines and proven build quality. The new 200 series is ugly, it has not grown on me like some new designs. Abased on posts in the 200 series section it is a model that has many more problems then the 100 series. As time goes Abu and the 100's a become q really old the 200's maya become the only option buts they are not a good option compared to the 100 series. IMHO

Isn't this almost verbatim what people said after the 100's were introduced? Seriously, switch out "200" for "100" and "100" for "80".

I would love a 200 series. KDSS, front coils, 5.7L that gets the same mpg as 4.7, 6-sp transmission. What's not to like? Looks are all subjective, which it seems like is 90% of your objection.

I respect your opinion but having driven both the 100 and 200 series, there is no competition ... i would pick the 200 any day!
