Yup. been in east Tennesse since new. I can't go look till Saturday, I just hope it's not sold before I get there. The lady who owns it emailed me all the maintenance records today and she's kept it in perfect condition the last 12 years. She bought it with 40,000 miles. When I called she didn't have a clue if it had the rear locker. I had to tell her where it was and she emailed me a picture of it. I was happy to see that knob.

Looks nice. Go for it. IF you are worried about it selling before saturday, offer to send her a $500 deposit.

Well if I get it, I'll have a 2003 4x4 Limited Sequoia for sale. 2nd owner, new tires, timing belt, water pump, and belts less than 2000 miles ago. Bad, 220,000 miles but it looks and runs like a new one. White with beige leather and the split spoke Sequoia wheels. I'm getting ahead of myself, need to get the Cruiser first :D

Great idea Texas993!! I've already decided I'm taking off Friday so I can improve my chances. I'm already looking to see what the max size tire I can put on without lifting it and taking those damn running boards off.

Thanks for the plug Corey!

Hey Tarmac,

Where abouts are you in Utah? And realistically how hard has your rig been wheeled? Guesses to typical MPG?

I'm over here in Denver and searching and searching and searching some more for the right 100. :bang:

Looking at a 98 LC and have a question

I found a 1998 100 series with 180,000 mile. Same owner for the last 12 years and timing belt and everything that goes with it was done at 162,000 miles. When I drove it the other day it seemed like the tranny has a little whining sound coming from the transmission. I've never had a 100 series so I was wondering if this is a normal sound for the miles? It runs great and the transmission shifts smooth. Asking price is $9,800, I offered $7,800 and they would go below $9,000.

If it's recently gotten cold (real cold) where you're at the t-case is notorious for making gear whine when cold.

My t-case makes the whine when cold. If it went away after a short distance, that's probably what it is. But of course Anthony has a good point too, a PPI done at your mechanic of choice (or a local-to-seller trusted shop/dealer) is a good idea for piece of mind.

Oh, dumb check but worth a shot. Make sure the transfer case is in HI and not LO. In LO it makes a gear whining noise, along with MUCH higher engine RPM's....so should be obvious.

I responded to you in my for sale thread as far as my location goes.

The cruiser has only really been wheeled twice (since I've owned it) and likely hardly ever before, I'm guessing it was a mall cruiser/soccer mom car. First time was up in the mountains above my house (it suffered some minor rocky mtn pin stripes that are mostly gone) and once at little moab when I broke the front diff.

It get's 12-14mpg mixed driving, 14-16 on the hwy.

Here are a couple vids of the day when I broke the diff just so you get an idea of how it was used in the most EXTREME case.

And when I broke the Diff

I'll post this over in the for sale thread also so if Corey feels this is clutter he can get rid of it!

Hoping to buy this '00 LC

A good buddy of mine whom has been on many wheeling trips with me finally has the LC bug. He found a 2000 model on the cheap! 220k on the clock. He asked me to take a look at it.

The bad:
-clear coat peeling off
-rotors warped
-check engine light on
-owner said ABS light issues, had sensors replaced but still see every now and then.
-both exhaust manifolds leaking
-tires bald
-sunroof no open (you can hear the motor trying)
-driver seat no heat or moving
-damage to front bumper
-leans towards driver side
-absolutley nasty inside (found food in ziplock bags, coffee stains everywhere, dirty clothes, old coffee mugs and sports bottles )
-battery about toast (had to jump it with two sets of cables)
-small rear dif leak

The good:
-it runs!
-shifts in/out of lo/hi ok
-TCL seems to work, i'm no expert at these trucks so not 100% sure
-suspension feels nice, no strange noises
-steering feels good lock to lock
-no leaking/grease front axle area
-oil pressure ok
-temp ok
-blows cold AC
-all elec windows work
-leather in decent shape considering how nasty the truck is inside
-no body damage, only light scratching here or there
-jump seats in the middle seats!
-trailer hitch

so you are probably wondering how much.....?

$1500! yes, that's right. so honestly tell me what you think. my friends plan is to make a wheeling rig out of this so we sat down and listed out items & pricing for the dream rig. let me know your thoughts about the price and any other things to consider. my thoughts were even if he decided it wasn't worth the time/money, he could part it out and make more than double back.:beer:
