Well after thinking some more I believe I'm going to keep my Tacoma. It just makes sense. It just runs so well and does everything I ask of it so there's no real reason to get rid of it. Maybe in a few years I'll cross over into the land cruiser world. Until then I'll lust over everyone else's land cruiser. Thanks for everyone's time and opinions.

Good decision. Enjoy Taco for now and when you've graduated and have a good job, then think about getting a Cruiser since you might be at a place where you can afford to have BOTH. Also, by the time you're ready, the Hundys will be a little bit cheaper and (if we're all lucky enough) there might be so much aftermarket support by that time then perhaps Trail Gear might even carry a SAS kit....yeah right....but seriously, someone needs to get on this ASAP.

I'll do $24k for MUD members but not a penny less, unless you want the VAIS out ($500) and the WK sliders off ($600), in which case it would be $22,900. I have the original factory running boards & roof rack.

I paid $24.5k 90 days ago, fully dealer serviced from a guy who owns two other Cruisers. I put $2k into it (90k service), then added the sliders ($800), VAIS (Sirrus & Ipod $750), full 3M window tinting ($600), front ARB fog lights ($95), Pfran's interior LED kit ($100ish), and Spresso's recovery tabs ($100ish). Also bought/have a complete set of door lock motors for when they go out in next 100k miles + LabRack/Thule Aeroblades (not included for $24k but you can have them for $400 (or just $250 for the LabRack mounts). I POR 15'd the bottom pans where there was some surface rust & rattle canned the sliders/factory wheels. It runs perfect. Just took a new job & am now driving 3000 miles/month. I either need to sell it this week or I'll park it for 2-3 years. Still has Utah plates & title---if you are in SoCal & married I can show you how to register this without paying CA sales tax on it.

Mike 818 314 2139. I'm in Pasadena CA area.

Sounds like a good deal for an 06 with all those goodies. I just bought an 05 with 107k and full up to date records for $19.5k. Overall in very good shape with a couple very minor blemishes.

I made the switch from a double cab tacoma to a 100. Biggest things is lack of bed space! More gas! Higher insurance about 30 dollars more a month!

Other than that, happy with the purchase.

Stolen Vehicle History

Would you buy a vehicle that was stolen over 10 years ago? Clean title but it shows on the carfax. Apparently, the 100 was stolen and driven into a creek where the idoit must have opened a door and let water in.

Two owner (not including the thief), low miles and good price. Current owner purchased the car from a dealer after it was stolen and dried out without any problems since.

The water issue is less concerning since it will not be a mall crusier and surely any problems would have popped up by now but I don't know if I'm comfortable with the stolen vehicle history or what my insurance company may say about it (if anything). I guess a good price = a little hair on the deal...Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I would generally say run and hide if it's had any type of water intrusion. Find out what was replaced and that should give you an idea how high the water made it. Is it a 2000+? If so, they have a lot more electronics than the earlier models. That said, 10 years and no reported issues..it's most likely find at this point, but a good way to negotiate the price down.

Brake actuator is in need of replacement

A guy is selling a 1999 Land Cruiser cheap with 170k miles. Reason for sale is to buy a new car. He was recently at the dealer and this is what the service paperwork says (see below). What are they refering to as a "BRAKE ACTUATOR"? If it's a leaky brake caliper or master cylinder, that doesn't sound like a big deal to me and I may strike a deal here. Or am I missing something I don't fully understand.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, keep looking.

That's a pretty pricey repair. Search, not too many been successful with rebuild.

Rover4, depends how cheap. The brake m/c-booster is very expensive but failure seems to be infrequent. And because they are infrequent, I'd be okay with installing a used unit. However, I'd first look into the $60 MC seal repair kit. Dealers don't usually change the seals but rather the entire unit.

Thanks guys for the responses. After a bit of searching, I read up on the MC rebuilding (which I think I could tackle myself) and heard about guys spending $$$ to have the repair done by the dealer. But dang, the owner e-mailed me back and said it has sold, in under 24 hours. He had it listed for $5500. Oh well, back to searching the classifieds.

I am looking at this 2006 LX. As far as I can tell the color is Sand Dollar Pearl. Wasn't that color discontinued in '06? And how does in look in real life?
i have seen a couple of '06 without headlight washers but this one has them. Was that an option or something? The seller also mentions an after market Mark Levinson, is there even such a thing?

The truck is 4 hours away so I want to get a feel on what you guys think. I sent the seller an email for some more info and pics but haven't heard back yet.

http://www.toyotareference.com/lexuslx/1998-2007 Looks like Sand Dollar Pearl was an '03-'07 color.

Mark Levinson is the one and only radio option for the '06 LX in the US, not sure about Canada though, maybe an option there? And taking a quick look at the '06 US brochure in the link above, it doesn't mention the headlight washers, so they must be an option in areas outside the states (I feel like that's the only place I've seen them - not down here, haha).

Okay, thanks for the info. I looked at the color chart before I posted but misread it or something
The stereo, that's what I thought. Pretty much everything is standard. Maybe the washers are een option here (in combination with Xenon), I don't know.
I can't see the '06 brochure, your link goes to the toyotareference color chart :hhmm:

The guy doesn't get back to me. The whole buying experience so far has been less then pleasurable to say the least. I have had my fair share of scams when trying to find a LC/LX. I get the strangest responses when asking for more info, some are plain aggressive. Not really people I would like to deal with. Or they just don't reply at all like this one. It sure takes all the fun out of finding a new ride.

When I was selling my truck I really put in some effort in it and took time to answer questions etc.. but I guess I am different. Now with money burning in my pocket it seems that everybody is ignoring me.

The only one that is still an option is the black one in Toronto.. As far as I can tell it is missing the rear seats, the rear entertainment system doesn't seem stock and it should come with headphones. It also doesn't have those washers, but it's a US vehicle.

Hundy noob checks in

Greetings!

I spend most of my Mud minutes over on the 60's board. Middle age has overtaken me, so am wanting to join the ranks of the Hundy owners and enjoy some of what the luxury Cruisers have to offer. This thread was SUPPOSED to be me telling you I got a 2000 with 96k miles for $14k. Problem is, my offer was turned down!

Here's the story:

The truck is green with tan interior. 90k service NOT done. Pass side has been repainted, looks pretty good, though. Carfax score of 94. Not sure how meaningful that is; whatever happened that the repaint was needed was not shown ont he Carfax. Truck drives nice, runs nice, I drove it at 80 mph, nice and smooth. Does not seem to have been smoked in. Everything works, no issues. Lots of ext paint scratches, looks like it may have been run thru a barb wire fence!

It was a consignment rig on a dealer lot. Asking $16,991. I offered $14k. They folded their arms and said no.

Please comment. Is $16,991 fair? Seemed high to me.

I guess I'll keep looking. If you hear of one, let me know. Looking for older Hundy, like 98, 99, 00, 01, 02 - good shape, low miles, non-nav.

Thanks.

@Rigger: Seems high to me too. Almost 17k for a repainted, scratched up Hundy with maintenance overdue. Your 14 sounds way better.

I feel your pain, DeltaT.

The LX that I was just looking at was sold out from under me.

There was a time when selling a vehicle was hard but buying was easy, especially when talking about a older gas guzzling SUV. Nowadays it seems that people with a 100 think that they are made out of solid gold and man are they ever heavy...;p

The guy with the white LX just got back to me. He sounds legit. I hope he is not too firm with his asking price (32k) Wish me luck.

WAY too high, walk away and keep looking. I wouldn't even buy that LC at $14k. Start looking out of state, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, etc. Lots of selection and you will find one that suits the bill.
