In that case keep the tacoma.

I would have to agree. I drove an 06 4Runner before getting the 100. I really loved my 4Runner......But, we have 3 kids still in car seats. That's where my decision to get a 100 came from. I needed more space.

We have a very nice Honda Minivan for mall duty, but the 100 fits everyone, plus the dog and gear for weekend trips to the mountains. Plus, it can go almost anywhere I'd ever want to take it.:steer:

It sounds like you've got what you want right now. I LOVE my 100, but I like the smaller 4Runners, Tacos and FJ Cruisers too. I'll say this, it's not a cheap vehicle to own. Once you factor in the price of the vehicle, mods to get you back to where your Taco is and 10-12MPG...... it's a lot to invest in a DD or once a month trail rig. But, if you're gonna really use it.... it's hard to beat!

haddix

If I already had what you have (double cab Tacoma with the extras you have) I may not sell to get into a LC myself although the power of the 4.7 V8/center diff lock and rear diff lock that come on some 98/99's are very nice features to have.

Would you need to sell you DC Tacoma in order to get into a LC? Your going to take a huge hit on resale of your Tacoma, but your going to come out way ahead of someone owning a ford/chevy/dodge product in compaison.

Maybe the Tundra DC would be a (4.7 V-8) better trade up for what you may need. If I could find fully loaded one of these here in Mexico not beat to *** I would for sure go this way.

From owning the much nicer 98 that I owned a year ago, I have always liked the status that comes with owning LC when I pull into a parking spot at the local mall/Starbucks/ or when driving around observing others looking giving thumbs up. Before owning my first LC I myself have always took notice when I'v seen them going down the road in the past and wanted to own one day.

These LC's are put together better, made to last, more rugged than any other sport utility and trucks on the market. They are enginered to last in the harshest conditions.

6 inches wider, worse mileage, more expensive to build, no pickup bed. If those things matter to you, keep the tacoma. I've been on trails where the 100 couldn't afford to be an inch wider. They aren't the trails I want to do, bu you don't want to have to turn around when the going gets tough either.
6" wider, but 10" shorter with a 10" shorter wheel base. Worse mileage, but more power, quieter, more comfortable and seats 8. Rent a trailer when you need a bed. Or, keep what you have.

I'd say pafly nailed it. I would love a 01-04 DC tacoma but the back seat is just too small. One rear facing seat center mounted leaves two small seats for rear passengers. I love the space of my 100 as well as the ride. In fact i mentioned to my wife just the other day about getting her a dc tacoma and she said she'd rather take my 100. She agrees on the ride and the space....not so much the refueling tho :)

I am searching for a '04 and up LC100 and so far it is driving me nuts.
Look what I get when I do a nationwide (Canada) search for a decent one: pffff. And the closest one is more then 1000 km away and not even what I want.
I am looking across the border but I might need some help.

if you do not need the space I would keep the Taco....I have wheeled with same generation (as your Taco) 4 runners and with the available aftermarkets parts you wheel go a lot further on rough trails with your setup...Taco is lighter, smaller, and I would actually prefer it on the trail to the super heavy and not so nimble 100.

All I really want at the end of the day (when the family is not looking) is to swap the LC 4.8 into my Tacoma.

But seriously for a single guy the double taco is hard to beat, once your crew doesn't fit, consider an LC, your time will come. Right now I think the taco makes more sense and is a LOT cheaper to own and operate.

Nice Taco, get your dad to buy the 100 and swap out with him when you get the itch. The 100 is a Cadillac compared to the Taco, if I were single with no kids I would take heed in the above statements.

Get a Cruiser.

I love my cruiser. Didn't expect to love it this much when I bought it. Now I can't imagine driving anything else. I shipped it to California with me and now I'm about to ship it back to Hawaii. Shipping prices to drive my cruiser beat rental prices for driving a chevy. At the same time, I wouldn't mind the right taco for the islands. You are trying to decide between my two favorite toyotas... I'd own both if I could.

The grass is greener

The grass is in fact greener on the 100 side.
It has a 4.7 L V8 and heated leather seats.
The 100 drives like a luxury 4wd SUV made in Japan.
The taco drives like a Toyota pick-up made in Mexico.

I have both: a 2000 LC and a 2009 Tacoma.
Both are good vehicles, but really, its like comparing a porsche and a corolla.

I think it's greener on the Land Cruiser side.

For a long time I wanted a Tacoma. Then I drove one and I was disappointed. I thought maybe it was because it was a used one with 100k miles. So I drove a brand new one. I was disappointed again. I don't remember there being any particular thing that I didn't like. It seemed generally competent and there wasn't much to complain about, but at the same time there was nothing at all to get excited about either.

I've never had that feeling with my Land Cruiser. First, I think it's more interesting and cooler than the Taco (if not as cool as my old FJ60). It's certainly more unique. It also excels at a great number of things, while having few weaknesses for what I want to do. It's just about ideal for me.

Why not take out a Land Cruiser for a test drive? Maybe you'll decide you like what you have. Or maybe you'll decide it's time to start looking for one. Either way it will give you a much better idea of what you want than than the opinions of a bunch of Land Cruiser fans on the internet.

You said you go to school still? I'd say keep the Tacoma while you're still in school, it'll be a lot more fun and less expensive to mod/fix. Once you graduate and settle in to a career and family, then bring in a 100 series. If you don't need the space or the luxurious ride or power of a v8, no need to swap so soon. But if you're really dead set on it...you have a pretty sweet truck, and I've got a '99 that's a little rough on the outside, but handles the trials like a tank ;). Wouldn't mind a new taco :P (just kidding haha)

Get a cruiser... the best toyota model made

Really appreciate all the feedback so far. I'm 21 and still in college. I have weighed out the SUV/truck debate and both have their pros and cons. No real need for a bed but it's nice to have. My dad has a trailer if I ever need to haul anything. My plans for a 100 series would be 2.5" OME lift, 33's, sliders and bumpers and call it done. I do like the smaller size of my Tacoma but I'm sure i can get used to the 100 series size. As mentioned I think a lot of it may be the status of driving a land cruiser. I have had a few yotas(couple tacomas,4runner) and I guess the landcruiser is the next step. Maybe I should wait until I get out of school?

If double cab tacos weren't so expensive, I'd have purchased one over my 100. If you want a cruiser so bad, I'll trade you my wife's hundy.....

No one here has ever said that before.......and then promptly went out and installed....

Skids, cause if you already have sliders you're gonna go offroad. Then a winch for that bumper.

And a roof rack would be nice for carrying extra gear. If you've got a rack, you might as well get a rooftop tent. If you're gonna sleep in the tent it sure would be nice to have food and drinks in a little fridge.

But, it's best to have a second battery to run that fridge. I guess if you can run all these trails now it's probably best to install lockers, and if you're gonna do that, you might as well regear at the same time for those 35's. And now, you've gotta stop that 7,000 lb beast so you'll want to look at getting bigger br.....

Ah, maybe you'll just call it done after the tires, lift and bumpers. Are you a betting man?

There are a lot of 21 year old college kids, who would give a right arm for a built Taco like you already have. I say run that thing til the wheels fall off. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 100, but at 21 and in college (or the Marine Corps in my case) my priorities were something like ......

Beer, girls, money, any vehicle that runs, Thursday thru Saturday nights, staying alive, not going to jail, fly fishing, calling my mom and any combination of the aforementioned items.
