Thanks Matt. I ended up taking the same route and went with the newer lower miles 07 rig and it seems very solid so far.

what its's worth

I have an 02 with 53K. White on tan. mint one owner...never offroad and no snow or salt. Grey trim exteior, BIOR front and rear bumpers( trim color matched). slee drop dif, OME lift 866's with 1" rear packs. 295's BFG's, compressor etc. no dents just REALLY clean. Im upgrading..what do think its worth?

Looks good. I just bought an 03 LX. I still prefer the Toyota front end more but I couldn't pass mine up so I got it. I like that color too. I have always wanted a LC and am so stoked with mine still!

I prefer the Toyota front as well but unfortunately 100 series Toyotas werent sold in Canada. Going down to the states is another option. What i noticed was that the air susp doesnt work and the diff lock light does not come on but i hear something engaging. Like a click

Unless they are willing to come off the price a good bit I would pass on it. There are plenty out there and one thing I learned is to have patience when searching. I am the type who wants it now but when I was selling my BMW I looked for about 3 months before I sold my car and then another 3 weeks before I made a purchase. Alot of times you can find the right one within a week or two with the right searching and if you don't mind traveling...

Here in Alaska you could get between $15k -$18k for it.

Going to look at a 100 and need help asap

I have been in the hunt for a built 80 for a while. Today I stumbled across a 1998 100 series with 147k, diff locks, and super clean. I was shocked that the price was within my budget. Most have been 13k or more but this one is priced at 8k. My guess is that this is too good to be true. I don't live near it, but a marine buddy of mine who is very skilled mechanically is on his way right now to go look at it. What are the usual issues he should be looking for? I know what they are on an 80 but have no idea what they are on a 100. He will check the obviuos stuff like condition inside and out, makes sure evertying works, no leaks, no rust, no tranny slip, no engine knock or rattle, but what else?

No reason a 98-99 should be in the $13k range...that is ridiculous........when you can get a 2001 that is near mint for that price.

$8k is about right I would say no matter the mileage and cleanliness...as it is still a 1998.

I would check the following at minimum:

-water pump, timing belt, etc changed at 90k miles?
-is exhaust manifold cracked and ticking or still good?
-when is last time front bearings were repacked...should be every 30k miles or 12 months...more often if crossing water
-check for leaks on engine, tranny, etc....these engines are nearly bullet proof so leaks or other issues could be sign of misuse or not being taken care of. After few years valve covers may start leaking as gasket compresses...can tighten down for temp fix but easy to replace

go through the SLEE 100 series guide as mentioned....as there are lots of other things once you get it to worry about such as 2 pinion vs 4 pinion but most just put an ARB in up front and forget about it. These are fairly trouble free vehicles especially when taken care of properly.....that one is very low mileage for the year so I would worry about it not being driven and seals and gaskets drying and then starting to leak but those are all easy fixes.

Good luck.

Well it didn't work out. I was told the bumpers had minor scratches. They were actually toast. The rear had a crack in it big enought my buddy stuck his hand in it. The front was crunhced in and damage went up onto the front fender. The tires were also cracked all over and totally rotten. He also wouldn't budge from his price. A new set of tires plus front and rear bumper covers with matcing paint would make this deal no so sweet so I passed. The driver seat was also toast which was another expense I would have to deal with. It was toooo good to be true.

Sucks that it didn't work out. Keep looking, you'll find what you want. For some comparison, I bought a 2000 w/ 152k miles in GREAT shape for $11,700. Front and rear bumper has scratches and there's a small dent on my tailgate, but you can only see it in the right lighting and it's nothing I"m worried about.
Depending on what you can spend, there are some good deals out there. Good luck!

Pretty good. I paid more than that for my '06 in October of last year ....

Very good price. Exactly what i just paid for mine w/96k, front ARB and evry option in silver/grey

I'm looking at an '04 LX470 with 41,000 miles, the dealer is asking $34K. I don't know any other details about the rig. I'm going to look at it on Friday.

How does that price sound? KBB has the retail price at approximately $41k, and private party $38K. I know KBB is not the end-all be-all, but serves as a rough guide.

1998 vs 2001 LC

Hey Guys, I wanted to get some opinions here, I'm looking at two Crusiers:

2001 LC, 165k Miles, Stock, Exhaust Manifold Leak, Asking 9000
Interior is supposed to immaculate

OR

1998 LC, 175k miles, Slee Sliders, Slee Bumper, Electric Rear Locker, HIR Headlights, Asking 10,500.
Interior is supposed to clean, with a little cracking on the front seats.

What are your folks thoughts?

Thanks,
Nate.
